About our home

Our second home is in the pretty village of Waidring in the Tirol. We use it for both summer and winter holidays and can never decide which we prefer. It is a charming and traditional Austrian 3 doubled bedroomed wooden chalet on two floors in part of a larger building which has another 2 similar dwellings. The ground floor entrance hall leads to two double bedrooms and one bathroom. Upstairs there is a further bedroom, bathroom, a separate toilet, separate utility room, a fully equipped kitchen with an Austrian style breakfast area and an English style lounge with a dining area. The bathrooms have full sized corner baths and separate shower cubicles. The large L shaped settee faces a glass fronted wood fire in the lounge. This also converts to a double bed. Wood is stored in the garage.
There is a balcony access from the lounge area with a table and seating for 6 people and a smaller single person table and seat.
The two bedrooms on the ground floor open on to the terrace area which in summer can be used for barbecues and sunbathing.
The car, which is at your disposal, is parked in the garage and there is a further parking area at the side of the house.

Where is it?

In the 60's Waidring was voted the most beautiful village in the Tirol. Our home settles between two mountain areas: The Loferer Alm and the Steinplatte. The ski gondola is 2 minutes walk and takes skiers to the Steinplatte ski area. St Johann, Kitzbuhel, Leogang and Feberbrun resorts are all within 15-25 kilometres. The ski pass covers 5 areas and for a further fee Kitzbuhel may be included. The gondola runs in the summer months for walkers and mountain bikers to access the mountain. Apres ski is active and fun, singing, dancing and exuberant chatting relives the joy of the day. Also in the summer, there is a swimming pool and a swimming lake in the village. There are several golf courses nearby, the nearest is 5 kilometers away. You may also wish to enjoy the white water rafting and cycling as well as mountaineering in the district. (More photos of our chalet and the area are to follow shortly)
On each Friday during the Summer the village band perform on the bandstand and each Monday evening there is a children's party evening at the same location. If you are lucky you may even find yourself involved in one of the many fest too.
The ski school has excellent English speaking instructors and the office is in the ski hire shop by the gondola station.
Forty five minutes from Salzburg you may enjoy the Music festival in August. The stunning countryside of Bavaria offers as many wonderful and picturesque lake and mountain scenery. The people and the food are generous and welcoming.

New Year can be spent in one of the mountain lodges with a log fire, Tirolean music and abundant and spectacular fireworks. The average cost of a beer here is. The Austrians are experts in tourism and they are invariably welcoming and delighted to serve. They continue to wear their traditional dirndl skirts and lederhosen in this area.
