About our home

Ours is a hundred-year old Anglo-Normann style cottage, in the middle of a huge garden with a large variety of plants, designed by a famous French garden architect.
A conservatory - serving as a dining-room - has been added to the original building, with a wide sliding door giving access to a fairly spacious terrace so that we can enjoy best the advantages of our beautiful surroundings. Adjoining the dining-room you can find on one side the kitchen, and on the other side the living-room with the fireplace. The three make a unit, only the hall and the staircase being separated from the rest by a wall. On the first floor we have two bigger bedrooms and a tiny one, as well as a bathroom. There are two bedrooms and a bathroomon on the second floor. We have two more separated lavatories on the ground-floor and halfway up to the first floor. We have storage space, washing machine, tumble drier, deep-freezer, etc. in the cellar. The view is marvellous from all the rooms...

More about us

  1. We are a married couple with 3 daughters (Julianna 14, Zita 12 and Johanna 11) and 2 sons (Vincent 7 and Alexandre 5). Christian is Belgian, 42 years old, economist. He is managing property investments in Central Europe. Rita is Hungarian, 39 years old. She studied English and Russian philology and also finished her law studies while the family was growing - and she is still staying at home looking after the children.
We love travelling, sports (especially skiing, skating, golfing, walking, jogging and tennis), reading, going to the theatre, concerts, cinema, etc., and luckily, our children are as active and curious as we are. We speak both French and Hungarian at home and we do our best to give a well-balanced education to our children: we should like them to feel at ease in both our cultures and many others. We think that travelling via home exchange could give a unique possibility to all of us to see the every day life of others. Since we are always on the move in our surroundings, we could suggest or help to organise interesting programmes to our new acquaintances who would come to stay in our house...

Where is it?

To cut the story short: it is our little town (25000 inhabitants) that gave the world the word "spa". From Roman times Spa has been one of the most popular European resorts. In the Golden Book of Spa you can find a long list of celebrities who stayed here during the past hundreds of years, from Tsar Peter the Great, Moliere and Victor Hugo to Einstein. Besides the Royal Golf Club (visible from our garden) and the new Baths, we have endless walking paths (also ideal for byking), horse-riding clubs, parks, and great restaurants. It is a hilly country with forests and meadows, absolutely beautiful. At Spa-Francorchamps besides the yearly Formula 1 races, there are rallies almost all week-ends. In Spa there is always something happening: festivals, concerts, championships, etc. Our region is also known as "les trois frontieres", both the Netherlands (Maastricht not to be missed) and Germany (Aachen, the capital of Charles the Great's Empire)being in half an hour's distance. Bruxelles, Leuven, Namur, Gent, Brugges, Lille, Antwerpen, Trier, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Liege, Luxembourg and so many other destinations can be visited in a day's trip, while Paris, Amsterdam, the Belgian coast, Frankfurt, etc. deserve a week-end.
