About our home

Situated in the heart of Europe, we warmly invite you to discover the many delights of Belgium from the comfort of our modern, 4 bedroom family house in Tervuren, on the outskirts of Brussels.

Renovated at the beginning of 2019, our house offers a contemporary, yet cosy feel - perfect as a base for exploring Belgium.

On the ground floor we have a modern, fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar. This leads onto a lounge and dining area, overlooking a secluded, woodland garden. Windows on three walls and a set of glass doors ensures that light floods in, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. On an autumn or winter's evening, our glass panelled fireplace creates a cosy atmosphere. Our TV offers a range of cable channels along with Netflix and Amazon TV and you are welcome to leaf through our extensive DVD collection. Off the entrance hallway you will also find a downstairs cloakroom, office and utility room with laundry facilities.

Upstairs are 4 spacious, comfortable bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 twin and 1 single room) and a large family bathroom. With notice, a cot, changing table and other baby equipment can also be provided.

We have a double garage with 2 cars and are open to doing car swaps, whilst there is adequate driveway parking for additional cars should you choose to hire.

As you can see from our photos, we have an affectionate, friendly kitty called Amber. She is very independent, gentle and great with people of all ages. If you don't mind putting food out for her during your stay, that would be great. However, if cat's aren't your thing, we can always book her into the local cattery.

More about us

  1. We're a family of 3; Mark, Christine and our son Euan (age 11). We have always enjoyed travelling and as he is getting older, our son is now growing increasingly keen on venturing further afield, outside of Europe.

  2. Mark is a writer and Christine is a Primary Teacher (therefore we are restricted largely to swaps during school holidays)

  3. As a child, Christine and her family used to do house swaps from their home in Scotland and used it as a way of exploring Western Europe. We're now very excited to return to house swaps to visit new places and to connect with other travellers around the globe!

Where is it?

Located in Tervuren, a family-friendly town on the outskirts of Brussels we are a ten minute walk from the stunning Tervuren park, on the edge of the tranquil Foret des Soignes and well served for public transport with local bus and tram services departing regularly for central Brussels and the nearby university town of Leuven. We are also only 15 minutes away from Belgium's major international airport.

There is a local market, offering fresh flowers and local produce every Friday in the town market square. You will also find a wide choice of family friendly cafes, ice cream parlours, restaurants, bars and bistrots in Tervuren and in the surrounding towns of Wezembeek, Stockel, Woluwe Saint Pierre and Zaventem.

The home of handcrafted, sumptuous chocolates, beer, waffles and French fries, the kingdom of Belgium is often called the Essence of Europe. Stunning architecture decorates quaint cobblestone squares. Incredible cuisine is found in a wide range of restaurants. Brussels is one of the world’s great cosmopolitan capitals, home to both the European Union and NATO. A flatland crisscrossed by canals in the north, Flanders is proud of its medieval art cities of Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. To the south in Wallonia, find the rolling hills of the Ardennes, countless castles, and the cities of Liege, Namur, and Tournai.

There is something for all ages, all interests and all seasons from local beer, wine and food festivals, adventure parks, outdoor mazes, canal and riverboat cruises and sand sculpting exhibitions in summer to the infamous Christmas markets, chocolate and waffle making workshops and a dizzying choice of museums in the winter.

If you fancy exploring further afield, Belgium offers the perfect central location with neighbouring countries; France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg just a short car or train ride away (Paris 1hr 40mins, Amsterdam 2 hrs, Cologne 2 hrs).
