About our home
Please note that we have also a beautifull manorhouse in the old citycentre of Lille
Our house dates back to 1930, but was refurbished 15 years ago. It has a magnificent big garden and there is a little river at the backyard.
There is a large bikeroadnetwork, that starts behind our house. You may use our bikes if you like.
We live 7 km from Tongeren, a nice old roman town, wellknown for its famous fleamarket on Sunday.
Our region is called Limbourg, a beautifull green area, with lots to visit (Liège, Namur, Maastricht, Vaals, Aix-la-Chapelle, Antwerp, Brussels...) not far from the Ardennes, the Netherlands and Germany.
Welcome at our home!

“It will be hard to find a better host than Ann: she anticipates your needs, she thinks about your transport, she goes shopping so that you find your fridge and cupboards full of food when you arrive, she showers you with welcoming details. Her house is fabulous, full of antiques and pieces with a story. It has been modernized but with full respect of the historic character . We were there in winter time. One manages to make the rooms toasty and the walks and bike rides in the neighbourhood are fun even in that season. The garden comes straight out of an romantic old movie, with it's ivy and ruins and a real river in the back. We must not forget the mention the extremely friendly and helpful neighbor across the street: she comes when you have a problem and she does errants for you if for some reason you can not go to the shop. We will definitely go back to this place when we have a chance.”
“We did not have a car and our host Ann was very kind to drive to Liege and collect us from the train station and take us to her holiday home in Sluizen. We had been in contact by email and Ann did some shopping on our behalf before we arrived and purchased groceries to see us through our first few days. She made us coffee and served a beautiful strawberry flan in welcome of our visit. There was nothing more we could ask of our host. Very kind and very generous. The home is very large and from the outside, red and orange autumn leaves have fallen on the big beautiful garden. The house must have been a mansion when it was built in 1935. Now the 70 year old home is a comfortable holiday home with modern bathroom, good wifi and easy living, with a great deal of space. The staircase has character and creaks as we climb the stairs leading to our spacious bedroom with double doors and windows looking over the paddocks to the old stone church. We find the bathroom decorated in burgundy colors and a large bath with taps that look like an old brass telephone, there are pretty tiles in the middle of the wall showing off an image of an elegant woman with long hair, dressed in flowing robes of pink and grey. Most days we walk 300 meters to catch the hourly bus "T1", opposite the Pharmacy and arrive in Tongeren within 10 minutes. During our two week stay we connect with other buses going to a number of very interesting places including Maastricht, Liege and Hasselt to see the cultural treasures and the magic landscapes. There are no busses on Sunday so we take to the bike tracks. Tongeren Museum has spared no expense to ensure a fascinating exhibition, bringing back to life bygone eras from the Neanderthal to GalloRoman. It begins with a flint hand axe, the first clear sign of human life in this region some 500,000 years ago. We like to walk and ride the bikes to other small villages nearby taking in the golden fields of canola and abundant fields of sugar beets. We stop off at small cafes and tiny pubs to try the local food and wine. We fill our backpacks with shopping from the closest supermarkets in near by villages. We are happy that Ann and her family accepted us into their home in Sluizen and we have had a very rich and enjoyable heritage tour. ”
“A "Grand" Edwardian style house - spacious rooms and modern kitchen and bathroom. We particularly loved the grounds - a beautiful garden and furnished terrace. A country area with nearby walks and endless cycle paths. We spent most of our time in Maastricht (30 minutes by car) as we have friends there, but we discovered the old part of Tongeren (6 minutes by car) on our last evening - really quaint and lots of lovely restaurants. The hosts were excellent and welcoming.”
“En nous inscrivant sur le site loveswap, au delà des échanges de maisons nous recherchions également des relations humaines avec de la bienveillance et du respect. Ann nous a conforté dans ce choix!! Ann et sa famille ont fait plus qu il n en fallait. Nous sommes vraiment ravis de cet échange et de les avoir rencontrés. Merci à eux et particulièrement à Ann de s être si bien occupé de nos lapins. Michelle et Simon ”
“Ann and her daughter Katrien spent 3 nights in our home and treated it as it was theirs. They even picked up the dead magnolia leaves so the garden looked spotless when we came back!”
“Ann et sa famille sont restés 10 jours chez moi : personnes très respectueuses des lieux et tout à fait recommandables!”
