“Duilio and Graham reached out to us and we are very happy they did. We had a wonderful time in Recife, staying in their new home. The place looks like the most desirable destination in the travel brochure, and when you allways think " It will be different when we arrive..." , this is like perfect paradise for real. We stayed there for 3 1/2 weeks and made a trip every week to see more of Brazil. It is the perfect base for making aditional trips having the airport nearby. Recife and beautiful Olinda are within driving distance. Walking around you feel more than safe, it is a gated community, bordering the ocean. When you swim in the infinity pool you have an amazing view. The beach stretches out endlessly, clean everywhere and almost deserted. The house is luxurous and comfortable, the kitchen well equipped. Roberta came every day to clean and to do the laundry. Grand luxury for us. The communication with the owners was very smooth and they left our house in an impeccable state. We are greatful for this opportuniy to get to know a little bit of Brazil in the best way thinkable. Jolien en Cas”
Duilio's reviewsAs a host (4)
“To find Duilio and Graham’s luxurious beach house in such a remote area is surprising. Pernambuco is a very rural area. And Tamandaré is a very small fishing village. But only after leaving Tamandaré behind, the real silence starts. A long and winding road through coconut and cashew tree plantation leads to the magnificent house at the Praia de Mamucabinhas. We were welcomed by the house most generous staff: Señor Manuel, Joao and Genilsson. They have made our stay an unforgettable experience. Mornings Señor Manuel would trade three freshly picked green coconuts for a cup of coffee. The rest of the day he would be busy gardening. João's cooking is great and his company is even better. Besides he’s your walking encyclopedia when it comes to Brasilan trivia. Genilsson is the quiet kind. He seems invisible, until you need him. In three weeks time we haven’t made it further than charming Rio Formosa in the west, the rather crowded and touristic town of Porto de Galinhas in the North and stunning Praia de Maragogi in the south. We realize how limited our radius of action has been, but it was all we could possibly have asked for. The house and it’s near surrounding were exactly what we needed. For shopping we drove to the sleepy town of Tamandaré, we would eat a fried fish at the beach, drink a beer, swim a little, watch the fisherman work and the horses run wild over the beach. We were fortunate enough to be guests for three weeks in this incredible house. And we have not been bored for a day. We have taken the canoe out to the reef, we have seen turtles. little Saguii monkeys would greet us occasionally in the coconut plantation. We have enjoyed the iguanas in the garden. We have spent hours and days at the fantastic beach in front of the house. We’ve relaxed by the pool. We would play Maria Gadu her latest record over all speakers in the garden. We would read books, watch our son Jack at the beach playing with the three dogs that belong to the house. We would watch the sunset, hear parakeets announce the evening. We have seen countless fireflies, we have seen the full moon rise from the Atlantic ocean. We have eaten incredible meat from the Churrasco. In return Graham and Duilio have spent three weeks in our house in Amsterdam. Our correspondence, their generosity were beyond polite. Apart from being the most wonderful guests, they left us two exquisite bottles of red wine. We’ve opened them the evening of our return in great gratitude. In short: Duilio and Graham are probably the nicest people we have never met. Chantal, Jack en Zwier”
“This exchange has been the epitome of my exchanges. I've been traveling constantly for 11 years, and this was the most heavenly exchange of all. The owners run a perfect house, with every convenience, swimming pool, home cinema, and staff of three very helpful personnel and three very beautiful, friendly dogs. The location is the utmost of privacy, a natural beach setting with tropical forest surrounding.”
Where is it?
Our house is located in a new development to the south of Recife - technically, in a separate city, Cabo de Santo Agostinho - called "Reserva do Paiva", in a compound, or 'condominium', as they are called in Brazil, called "Morada da Península". This is an up-market, gated housing estate, boasting controlled entrances and security 24/7. It's discreetly tucked away, quiet, private and safe.
It's surrounded by a large natural reserve crisscrossed by footpaths and cycling tracks. Many tropical birds and the occasional saguii monkey can be often spotted in the early hours and in the evenings.
There are long, gentle, jogging and cycling tracks within the compound in addition to access to tennis courts and other sports facilities, massage parlor, hairdressing salon, bar and large, communal pools.
The beach in front of the house sea can be quite choppy, according to the season and the tide and we discourage our guests to swim too far as shark attacks have been reported on beaches nearby. However, only a few hundred yards down the beach, to the right of the house, there are extensive coral reefs just offshore which create a natural breaker and allow for the formation of lovely natural pools at low tide.
Just over the bridge, at variable distances, there are a number of supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, pizzerias, bars, etc. Just drive up and down the long stretches of road along the beach and choose.
Recife, the state capital is only a few kilometers away.
Recife International Airport (REC) is well placed within the domestic flight network and there are direct flights to Lisbon (7hrs), Frankfurt (11hrs), Milan (10hrs) and Miami (8hrs). Also, various charters operate from Scandinavia and Italy. (Check with your travel agency as these things change from season to season.)
The other option is to fly to Sao Paulo (GRU - 3hrs away) or Rio de Janeiro (GIG - 2.5hrs away) from many places around the world and then take a domestic flight north, to Recife.
Garden and pool maintenance is done by specialized teams.
We have a house helper who comes every day to do general cleaning and tidying up the place. She also takes care of the laundry. She does not cook or press personal clothes.
We have good neighbours and a great set of friends who are always ready to help should assistance be needed.
