About our home

This bright airy condo is on the third floor of a 4-apartment, quiet building that is within easy walking distance of the city centre. The face of the building and the balcony catches the morning sun. There are parquet and tile floors throughout. The apartment has linens and a fully functional kitchen. A Yamaha 88-key electronic piano is in the dining room. Further information about the neighborhood and apartment are available.

More about us

  1. We are retired Canadians who live in Victoria, Canada. We own this condo because we enjoy Brazil and its Gaúcho culture. We travel several times a year to cities in South America and Europe. We like to stay for several weeks to learn about the places we visit and to take exploratory trips around the country. We enjoy photography, culture, flora and fauna, and interesting geographies.

Neighbourhood

The condo is on a quaint quiet one-block long cobbled street 2 blocks from the Medical Faculty of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. It is 3 blocks from the largest park, Parque da Redenção (Parque Farroupilha), which has a running track, long foot paths, football fields, ponds and fountains, mini-zoo, orchidarium, and kids'amusement centre. A kids' playground is at one end of the street. Within 2 blocks there are bread shops, clothing shops, book stores, a hardware store, veg/grocery shops, and at least 5 cafés/restaurants. Three major grocery stores are within a 15min. walk. It is within 3 blocks of many public bus routes that go to the city center (and central market), international airport, bus station, and major shopping centres. Two taxi stands are within a block. Public transportation is clean, safe and inexpensive. The city is quite safe, the street has a 24 hour security patrol and the condominum building has controlled access. Porto Alegre (pop. 1.500.000) is the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, the Gaúcho region of Brazil. It has a variety of churrascarias and restaurants, cafés, cultural attractions, fairs, parks and shopping malls. It is on Lake Guaíba about 100km from the ocean beach. It is close to the resorts of Gramado, Canela and their water falls. According to BBC Weather, the avg.max temp. is 31 deg.C (Jan-Feb) and the avg.min temp. is 9 deg.C (Jun-Jul). The city is not heavily touristed and the people are helpful and friendly.
