About our home

This is a gorgeous 3 bedroom apartment in a beachfront private resort located in Cupe Beach, 60km south of Recife and 6km north of Porto de Galinhas. It's a prime beach location which harbours most of the 5-star hotels in our state and it is one of the most sought after beach destination in Brazil.

Porto de Galinhas has been voted "Best Brazilian Beach" for the eighth times in a row by the readers of Voyage & Tourism Brazilian magazine. According to this magazine, the main reasons given are the beauty of the natural pools (the closest to the coast in all of Brazil), the ecological trails, the hotel infrastructure and the proximity to a large city and the airport in Recife. In the resort there is a small shop, a restaurant (not 24h), a fitness room, game rooms, tennis courts, wet saunas, track lanes and huge swimming pools.

We use this apartment sparingly as a getaway or to entertain guests. It's on the second floor and has elevator service. There is a clean-up service available at a fee (pay-per-use), and upon appointment.

High season extends from year end through Carnival, in February, when beaches and pools are packed with people. If you are more of the quiet type you may want to choose the other months, though July and August have some days which are windy/rainy and beach waters get a bit cloudy from river runoffs.

Either way the climate and people are always warm and receptive. Kids and the kid within you will have a blast.

A stay of 3-5 days is usually enough for you enjoy the surroundings and rest.

Where is it?

Porto de Galinhas is famous for its natural reef pools and has a good touristic structure while still maintaining the characteristics of a small beach villa. The easiest way to get there is through rental car out of Recife's International Airport. The trip takes 1h in light traffic or twice in heavy.

Within 800m walking distance south of the resort you will find a formation of natural reef pools much like what you find in Porto de Galinhas but less crowded. You will also find excellent restaurants providing beach service. Within same distance due north you will find Muro Alto beach, very much worth visiting for its natural seawater pools.

At Porto de Galinhas there are several options of restaurants specially suited for serving typical local foods and fruits (tapioca, carne de Sol, queijo coalho, macaxeira, caipirinha de Cajá, Graviola, Cajú, etc.)

Bit of culture
According to history the town was called Porto Rico (Rich Port) until 1850 when it became a place where people traded slaves to work in the plantations of sugar cane. To evade the control of the illegal transaction, slaves were transported together with guineafowl and passwords were created by traffickers (Portuguese: "Tem galinha nova no porto"—"There are new chickens in the port"), hence the origin of the name.
