Carport at back of house - our van (1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager, seats 7) would be available if required.
We have cable internet and the house has electric baseboard heating and a woodburning stove.
Our home is in Tunstall Bay on the southwest side of Bowen Island which means that you can enjoy beautiful ocean sunsets in the evenings. We are 10 minutes from the ferry dock in Snug Cove and the ferry ride from Bowen Island to Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver is 20 minutes. From Horseshoe Bay, you can take a daytrip to Whistler (site of the 2010 Olympics) or you can pop into Vancouver (approx. 15 minutes) for sightseeing, shopping and fantastic cuisine.
Bowen Island is a rural, west coast island featuring many beaches, forests and trails. Bowen's population of approx. 3700 people is very community-oriented, relaxed and friendly. You will be welcomed by neighbours, friends and perfect strangers! The island's two commercial villages, Snug Cove and Artisan Square, feature excellent amenities including 2 pubs, 3 cafes and 3 fine dining restaurants plus a variety of interesting shops, galleries and grocery stores. Swimming, hiking, mountain biking, tennis, golfing, boating and fishing await you. 2 mountain bikes are available, along with golf clubs and tennis racquets. Boat rentals are available. For more information on Bowen Island, see http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-
The community of Tunstall Bay has a clubhouse and ocean-front outdoor pool. If you are interested, arrangements can be made for you to have access to this amazing facility while you vacation here.
The neighbourhood is very quiet and our house is in an orchard-like cul-de-sac. Public transportation (a 2-minute walk) is scheduled around the ferry which leaves the island hourly. Books of tickets for the ferry can be purchased at the grocery store. Approx. cost for a return trip (pay only when coming over to the island from Horseshoe Bay) is $20 for 2 people and vehicle or $30 for 4 people/vehicle.
We are Liz and Ian and we have two children, age 14 and 11. Liz is a kindergarten teacher (therefore a summer break holiday is necessary) and Ian works in the natural gas industry. When not working, Ian enjoys golfing and is very willing to check out the local golf course at any opportunity. He'll be looking to check out other golf courses during our holiday. Liz also has a part-time business as a commercial artist (cards and commissioned watercolour paintings) and she also sings and plays the double bass with friends who, like her, have been bitten by the bluegrass bug.
We have the world's best neighbours who will be happy to be of assistance or show you around the neighbourhood.
