“We have just returned home from a 5 week home exchange with David & Hilda in Calgary. We had a wonderful time and we found the home very comfortable and ideally located for exploring both Alberta and British Columbia, both large provinces in Canada. The part we wanted to explore was the magnificent Canadian Rocky Mountains as well as the diversity that the whole Province of Alberta has to offer. The home was very comfortable and ideally located for accessing the TransCanadian Highway 1 (the main highway in Canada) a mere 2 kilometres away and yet central Calgary was an easy 30 minute drive away or a short drive to the 69th Street Railway Station to then access central Calgary by train. We spent a lot of our time exploring the Province of Alberta using the home exchange as a base to travel from and using hotel accommodation when we drove to the further reaches of Alberta. Again we wish to highly recommend this home exchange (ID-2065) to anyone who is looking to explore Western Canada (Alberta and British Columbia).”

David's reviews
As a host (2)“We spent three weeks in David and Hilda\'s home, just outside Calgary. The location is perfect, as it is a short drive to the centre of Calgary and you can see the stupendous Rocky Mountains from the house. David and Hilda\'s home is located in an exclusive area which is beautifully quiet. My son and I went running around the immediate area and only saw coyotes, gophers and squirrels! The house has superb views of the Rocky Mountains and the Calgary area. The house is large and well set out, with everything you might need. Additionally there is a heated pool which is obviously a great benefit! There is a huge atrium at the rear of the house with lovely views of the landscape. Sitting on the large deck at the back of the house in the evening, you might even see deer approaching. Everything was very straight forward but David and Hilda also provided an extremely comprehensive guide to their home, as well as including detailed travel itineraries and hundreds of leaflets on nearby attractions. David and Hilda were extremely helpful from the start and it was incredibly kind of their daughter and son-in-law to collect us from the airport , show us around the house and even show us where the local shops and railway station were. It was a fantastic holiday that we will always remember. Calgary is a safe, interesting city full of friendly helpful people. It is easy to negotiate and even has a rainy day trail that is all indoors. There are lovely areas such as Prince\'s Island, Inglewood and Kensington. We really enjoyed visiting Calgary Zoo which takes a good few hours. We watched an outdoor performance of Hamlet and had lots of meals in fantastic restaurants. Calgary Market is a delight and the parks in Calgary are simply wonderful. From this house, there are superb day trips in every direction. These include Banff, Kananaskis, Canmore, Edmonton, Waterton Park (and the USA). The roads are wonderful to drive on and very empty compared to the UK. Highlights for us were seeing canyons and the Canadian Badlands; viewing bears and other wild animals in their natural habitat; boating on huge lakes with beautiful clear water, and hiking in unspoilt mountains with incredible views. We would not hesitate to recommend this house as a house exchange destination. A fantastic location and a very warm welcome. Definitely a place where you will make memories.”

Neighbourhood
Our two acreson top of a hill, overlooks the city of Calgary. Short drive to fishing, golf, world class shopping. 1 hour from Banff.Neighbourhood are estate homes,is very quiet (culdesac),but minutes from city.Animals you will encounter all year:black bear, deer, coyote, rabbits, porcupine. Our neighbours are friendly but not intrusive. We would introduce you to them and we would ensure a typical CALGARY welcome. The pics are outdated but I will add newer ones, once I've learned how to marry the camera with the computer.Best of both worlds:world class city with fine restaurants, and spectacular scenery, next door.
