About our home

Our vintage apartment occupies an entire floor in a nine-storey concrete mid-rise.. The elevator opens onto our foyer. There is a commodious living/dining/kitchen space and two very comfortable and spacious bedrooms. We can arrange foam mattresses in a third bedroom used as a study and studio if necessary. Two balconies let a little of the outside in, one of them opening onto a quiet street where bikes and walkers outnumber cars 20 to 1. We especially welcome visitors who don't mind sharing the space with our shy but good-natured and easy-going cat.

More about us

  1. We have done more than a dozen wonderful swaps.

  2. Jim's a mostly retired journalist and writer; Jessie's a long ago lawyer who more recently taught law classes to criminology students.

  3. We're food and art lovers who also like to golf.

Where is it?

We're in a mid-rise, European-style area just a two-minute walk from the upscale South Granville shopping strip, notable for its women's fashion and home decor shops, as well as art galleries. Tourist mecca Granville Island is a 10-minute walk, downtown via foot or aqua bus, no more than 30 minutes. We're also two minutes from express bus lines heading in all directions, with connections to everything.

Buzzy restaurants
Tojo's—once tabbed by the New York Times as the best Japanese restaurant outside of Japan—is a couple of blocks away. And there are dozens more, encompassing multiple cuisines and price points.
Cool bars
In this neighbourhood people seem to do their meeting and drinking mostly in restaurants, but livelier neighbourhoods like Main Street, Kitsilano and various downtown locales are handy.
Cozy cafés
Retail therapy
Lots of higher-end, indie women's apparel, and furniture and home decor of every description.
Bit of culture
Vancouver's main sales galleries have mostly dispersed to areas with cheaper rents, but Granville is still home to top-tier Bau-Xi and Douglas Reynolds galleries, along with a dozen or so lesser ones. Plus there are several significant theatre and music venues nearby, including the Stanley Theatre.
Walks in the park
The 28-kilometre seawall, the world's longest waterfront walking and biking trail, is just down the hill. Van Dusen Gardens and Queen Elizabeth Park are longer walks or easily accessible via transit or car.
Spot of exercise
We're on a bike route and are happy to offer the use of our three bicycles, one of them electric. The North Shore mountains, with their hiking trails and ski resorts, are less than 30 minutes by car, and Granville Island with its many marinas is a 10-minute walk. Plus there's golf and, well, everything.
Day tripping
Whistler, Victoria, Seattle and various Gulf Islands are all less than three hours away. Vancouver's rugged north shore is a half-hour; beaches are a few minutes. And there is easy access to the rest of British Columbia, as well as Washington State, with all they have to offer.
