About our home

Enjoy the beautiful River view from our deck. Relax and watch the eagles, seals, and other wildlife. We leave our canoe beached beside the river and we canoe all year round. We enjoy paddling up the Stave river to the Ruskin dam or out to the Fraser River. You will need to use our vehicle as there is much to see near where we live. The area has many lakes, waterfalls, hiking trails where you can enjoy nature. There is skiing in the winter, fishing in the fall, and swimming in the summer. We live in a coastal temperate rainforest so our weather can be unpredictable and we experience more rain than some places, but it is usually mild enough that we are never stuck inside. Summer and early fall usually bring us the best weather and most sun.

One of the interesting things about our area is that it is a working river where you can watch the lumber mills at work. The tug boats bring in the logs and tie them up along the river and the smell of fresh cedar is never far away.

Even though we are in a semi rural location we are only 10 minutes from the nearest shopping and amenities in either Mission or Maple Ridge. There are local wineries and brewpubs. There are a wide variety of interesting places to see nearby like Harrison Hotsprings, Fort Langley, New Westminster Quay to name a few. , It is only one hour from Vancouver which is a very pretty city with shopping, art galleries, museums, and theatres. We are 30 minutes from the US border and 3 hours from Seattle. There is something for everyone.

Randy is already retired. He owned a boat and did various jobs on the river including beach combing and water taxi service. I am a high school Theatre teacher an I am looking forward to retiring in February 2016 and to the time when we can start travelling more often. The first area I would like to explore is Europe but the wish list is long and varied. I am hoping there is a compatible exchange out there for us!
