About our home

My completely updated mid century modern townhouse is on a waterfront plot next to a lake stocked with trout yet walking distance to the mall, the bookstore, cafes, and the library and directly near the bus loop.

More about us

  1. We’re retired, but not retiring. We love the serendipity of exploring unknown places.

  2. Shane was a property assessor; Madeleine was a professor.

  3. We like chocolate, good wine, good friends and good conversation.

Where is it?

My townhouse is adjacent to Mill Lake Park in the small town of Abbotsford (160,000 people) known as “the city in the country.” 90 minutes east of Vancouver BC in the beautiful Fraser Valley. Ours is an agricultural area of blueberry farms, grapes,and hops. There are wineries and craft breweries close by. You can walk to everything from my home and it’s one block to the main bus terminal and two blocks to the mall; however you live in a park in the centre of the city — it’s wonderful.

Buzzy restaurants
Restaurant 62, intimate fine dining; The Brickhouse, and right next door— The Himalaya (Indian) and the Bavaria.
Cool bars
Abby Ales, Field House Brewing Company, Townhall pub
Cozy cafés
Duft’s Bakery; The Polly Fox (gluten free bakery) ;
Retail therapy
The mall 2 blocks north. The Saturday morning Farmer’s Market downtown
Bit of culture
The a Reach Gallery Museum; The Mennonite Museum; annual airshow; The Sikh Heritage Gurdwara;
Walks in the park
Right outside the door— 2.2 km around the lake. The Willband Creek bird Sanctuary, too many parks to list, there are wonderful walks on the dykes adjacent to the Fraser River
Spot of exercise
Walking, skiing, hiking, lots if places to swim in and outdoors
Day tripping
10 minutes from the US border at Sumas Washington, 2.5 hours from Seattle, 1/2 hour from historic Fort Langley, 15 minutes from Clayburn Village, easy access to Vancouver by car in 60 to 90 minutes.
