Nicely finished three-storey home with open plan interior. Living room with vaulted ceiling, two bedrooms with queen-size bed in each, office/den with sofa-bed, three bathrooms--one with shower, one with claw-foot bathtub. Separate laundry room. Games room with pool table. Several sundecks, one with grape arbour which provides dappled shade for alfresco dining in the summer. Private setting with lots of mature trees. Very quiet location. Property is adjacent to Gulf Islands National Park.
I am a retired businesswoman, in my early 60's, with interests in travel, design, gardens, food. For the past few years I have been spending northern summers here on beautiful Pender Island and southern summers in New Zealand, enjoying the best of both countries and managing to have an endless summer. Ah, retirement is glorious!
Pender Island is one of the Canadian Gulf Islands, located between the mainland of B.C. and Vancouver Island. There is daily ferry service from both Vancouver and Victoria as well as float plane service from Vancouver airport. The year-round population is around 2,500 people, many of whom are artists with studios set up in their homes. Most of the island is forested and our foreshore is rocky, with occasional pebble beaches. There are forest trails and beach accesses everywhere. There are also a number of farms, which gives a rural feeling to the island. It is a very safe environment--no poisonous insects or predatory animals here; the deer wander freely through our yards, happily munching anything that hasn't been well-fenced. There are shops that provide all amenities and a number of good restaurants and pubs. There is a lot to do here: kayaks are available for paddling around the various coves and inlets or to one of the other islands if you are feeling adventurous. Forest trails abound. If you are wanting pampering try a visit to the spa at the island's 4-star resort. There is a lovely winery which hosts open-air concerts in the summer, a golf course, a world-class disc-golf course, and a fabulous Farmers' Market. But mostly our visitors are charmed by the sense of peace and quiet here. It is the perfect place to relax and recharge.
