About our home

This studio apartment is attached to the main farmhouse but is entirely separate. The compact 600 sq ft area features a queen bed with single trundle bed for a third person, a full kitchen with induction stovetop, convection/microwave oven and dishwasher, a washing machine and dryer, a deep Japanese tub with shower, and a living room/dining room area. The floors have radiant heat, and there are many built in cupboards for storage. An office area provides space for your laptop, and the TV doubles as a monitor for the computer with internet (wired and wireless). There are also multiple gaming systems (xbox, xbox360), DVDs and a keyboard for entertainment at home. Our hot water systems are all powered by Solar Evacuated tube technology giving an almost unlimited supply of hot water for showers and the deep tub.

The farm is 4 acres with riding ring and horses in barn. There are chickens all year and sheep sometimes. The two resident ducks and barn cats are about the place (outside), and the miniature dachshund guard dog lives in the main farm house. (the residents of the farm house are responsible for all animal care) It is peaceful, and the view out the back and front is tranquil trees. It is a short walk (10 minutes) to the town of Qualicum Beach and the town pool and shops. Once in Qualicum it is another 10 minutes walk downhill to the ocean. Qualicum Beach is on the east side of Vancouver Island, so the ocean is the Strait of Georgia. In the summer, it is warm enough for swimming. It is a safe, quiet neighbourhood, that is very child friendly. The closest urban areas, Nanaimo to the south or Courtenay to the North, are about half an hour by car, and have many shopping, dining and nightlife venues.

We are a small family of three - mom and two daughters (15 and 11). Mom is an engineer and has several businesses (a software company and a beer brewery) as well as being involved in property development. The oldest is interested in architecture and cooking and the younger is also interested in food and music - she is a piano player and has taken up clarinet. Both girls enjoy singing. We speak french somewhat, the girls are now taking it in school so mom has had to brush up.
