About our home

Our property, 150m from the lake with easy access, is well treed and informally landscaped which gives privacy to the house and sundeck. Although not large the house living area is open-plan and has a light, spacious and comfortable feel, with hard-wood floors, wood panelling and beams. It was substantially renovated 16 years ago and the kitchen and bathroom are efficient and convenient. Two of the bedrooms on the main floor are compact with single beds, and the master bedroom has a king-size bed and many windows. On the lower floor are the laundry appliances and the fourth bedroom which has a toilet and sink ensuite. We have an extensive library of books, and also some music and videos. Can send photos.

More about us

In our late 60s, Robert is retired and Joanna is a poet and childrens' writer working at home, we live with 2 friendly cats who are allowed outside only in daylight through a cat door. Experienced house-sitters, can send references. Have done one home exchange before and found it very successful.Will have an adult son with us.

45 minutes drive to Victoria, the provincial capital, with its fine shopping, entertainment, and many attractions, and 10 minutes drive to the ocean, Shawnigan Lake is a resort and bedroom community around the lovely lake amidst the beautiful forested mountains of Vancouver Island. The area is quiet; most homes are well scattered on large lots. Recreation activities are numerous, with the lake, ocean and mountains all close. Aboriginal art and culture are widely available. Public transit is infrequent so a car is recommended, although basic shopping and other personal needs are within easy walking distance.
