About our home

I have rebuilt this squared log home from an early pioneer home. Our "Swan's Nest" has been relocated to the shore of the beautiful Gatineau River and completly modernized with a cozy living room with wood stove, a large kitchen open to the dining room and sitting room that looks out onto the river and the picturesque Gatineau Hills. Patio doors open from the sitting room onto a spacious wooden deck complete with lawn swing, benches, bbq, and hot tub. Numerous gardens and the waterfront make this private spot a dream holiday location. Canoe, swim and fish from your door step.

More about us

  1. We are Brian and Sheila, early retirees who enjoy the outdoors and love to travel. We were both teachers in the environmental field and since retirement have been wilderness tour guides. We have two cats that come with the house. I love building and tinkering with my old cars while Sheila loves the gardens and keeps all the bird life happy. We are anxious to try the house exchange route and in some situations it may not have to be a reciprical exchange. We are open to travel just about anywhere.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

We are located across the river from the quaint village of Wakefield about 30 minutes north of Ottawa, our capital. An authentic steam powered train brings people to visit our historic village with its covered bridge, old gristmill/spa, craft shops and super restaurants. Wakefield is 3hrs to Montreal, 5hrs to Quebec city and the same to Toronto. This is a haven for outdoor recreation - bike, hike, golf, fish.
