About our home

Our home is a 2 bdrm. walkout bungalow located in a gated community, both levels are fully finished and total approx 3200 sq. ft. There are two fireplaces, two 4 pce. bthrms and 1 three pce. bthrm.
The entire house ( up & down) is either hardwood or ceramic tile. It is a southern exposure ( looking onto the lake and mountains ) with a lrge deck on the south side on both levels. The lower level leads directly to a beautifully landscaped area which allows for easy access to visit with neighbours.
The kitchen is direcly off of the great room with a large island that looks out through the very generous windows at the mountains on the other side of the lake. There is a walk through pantry that allows for abundant storage space.
Downstairs there is a Media room with a 50 in. flat screen tv, some very comfortable recliners, used primarily for watching sports.
There is an oversized double garage attached to the front of the house with direct access to the house from the garage.
There are garbage ( weekly pickup ) & recycling ( bi-weekly pickup ) carts in the garage that are set out for pickup on Thursday morning.
The house is heated with foced air heat ( natural gas ) and there are two electric baseboaed heaters in the basement. This is in addition to the two gas fireplaces , one on each level.
Our summers can get quite warm ( 40 c ) therefore the house is fully air conditioned.

We think that we live in an Ideal location. Our community is a 55 plus gated community with a population of about 180 people and a clubhouse that can accommodate up to 75 people comfortably. This allows for small community dinners, games night, a sewing club, a poker club and bi-weekly coffee parties on Tues. mornings. There is plenty of time and space for other activities it only requires someone to organize them.
We are surrounded by acricultural land ( a thoroughbred horse farm, a nut orchard, a regional park and a tree farm) which makes for very pleasant walks down to the lake
( about a 15 min. walk ). At the same time it is only a 30 minute walk, 5 minutes by car to town where you will find everything you would find in any large centre ( shopping, entertainment, restaraunts, medical clinics, library, gov't services). At the present time the only access to public trasportation is from the town center but it is frequent and can get you anywhere in the area in short order.
Our community is very rich in agriculture with emphasis on vineyards and orchards. Throughout the summer you can enjoy fresh cherries, plums, peaches , pears, apples and other exotic fruits. There are over 150 winerys in the immediate area with beatiful buildings , grounds and restaraunts ,not to mention delicious wines & entertainment.
Our economy is based primarily on tourism and demographics ( may people choose to retire here because of the mild climate ) so there are alway places to go and new things to see.
Our home is located only one hour away from two of the best ski hills in the world , Big White & Silver Star.During our olympic year 2010 some European ski teams have chosen these hills to do their practice and preparations. This makes our area a year round site for tourism so the fun never stops.

Both my wife and I spent the majority of our proffessional lives in the area of education. I retired approx 10 years ago and my wife did so about 5 years ago. We began travelling when I retired and our goal was , and still is, to see the entire world. Thus far we have been to Europe, Africa , South America, Mexico, Asia, most of the USA , and almost all of Canada.
We believe in the adage that, " you are part of all that you have met " so we continue to change and grow and look forward to every new experience.
I am a bit of a sports nut so I have to give up following some of my favorite sports when we travel ( NFL Football, NHL Hockey, Curling ) but our travels have also introduced me to new sports ( Cricket, Rugby & Football, the largest religion in Brazil )
At home I spend large amounts of time on the golf course and my wife spends an equal amount of time in her many sewing and quilting groups. We both enjoy walking and hiking as our climate and surroundings are very conducive to this type of activity. I have joined a trails & parks society that promotes the building of new parks and trails in our area and it is a very politically active organization that has achieved quite a bit. We also enjoy music of all genres and attend many musical performances and festivals as time and money will permit.
Other interests that we have include Bev's interest in photography ( she is the photographer and I am the model if she needs some perspective ) I enjoy woking with wood and when time permits I enjoy making sawdust and sometimes something useful or artistic actually appears.
