About our home

Our house is large and comfortable, with plenty of space to roam. Set on 1 hectare, there are gorgeous gardens and lake views, a swimming pool, and even a 60m flying fox for the kids. We have a large functional kitchen, dining room, living room with enormous fireplace, office (with WIFI), four bedrooms and a kid's playroom. Outdoors there is a large terrace with barbecue and beautiful spots for outdoor dining. It is so peaceful and quiet, you may be tempted never to leave! You will have at your disposal our maid and gardner, both of whom come daily to take care of you. Our only requirement is that you take good care of our dog, Gracie (Chesapeake Bay Retriever) who loves to be patted and will be forever grateful if you take her swimming in the lake occasionally.

More about us

  1. We are a married couple (I am American, my husband Australian) with two boys, ages 3 and 5. We have been living in Pucon for 5 years, and in Chile for a total of 9 years. My husband is a geologist working all over Chile and Argentina, and I teach yoga and do management consulting to small businesses. We love living in Pucon and feel it is the perfect place to raise our children due to the proximity to nature (we swim in the lake just about every day in the summer) and immersion in a foreign culture. In November-December this year (2009) we plan to visit family and friends in Australia and are looking for a place to stay while we are there. We are primarily interested in finding a place in Sydney, but are open to any nice spot on or near a beach.

Where is it?

The house is located in a gated community 3 km from the nearby resort town of Pucon (a 10 hour drive or 1 hour flight from Santiago). There are several walks and mountain bike rides right from the house, and our kids love picking blackberries, apples and chestnuts in the neighborhood. Pucon itself is a small town on Lake Villarica, a destination summer resort at the base of a live volcano. There are restaurants, cafes, shops, markets and nightlife in the town. But the real attraction is all the outdoor activities the area has to offer. There are numerous crystal clear lakes nearby for swimming or boating. Pucon is a kayaking mecca with loads of rivers, and rafting for the less adventurous. You can climb a live volcano, take a horse trek in a national park, visit any number of local hot spring resorts, go rock climbing, take yoga classes, or treat yourself to a massage or other spa treatment. For those who want to improve their language skills, there is a Spanish language school in town. In just 3 hours you can get be in another Chilean lake resort, Puerto Varas, or across the border in Argentina in the resort of San Martin de los Andes. In short, you will have no lack of things to do on your vacation. Chile is a wonderful and safe country for travel, and you are ensured to have the trip of a lifetime.
