“We had a wonderful time at Laurice and Dennis' home in Ojochal. The house is beautiful. Very spacious with a superb garden and brilliant views of the Pacific. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. They showed us around the village and suggested places to eat and visit. We were enchanted by all the wildlife and we thoroughly enjoyed relaxing by the pool with the exquisitely perfumed Ylang Ylang tree. Lots of interesting things to do and a good selection of restaurants locally. We confidently recommend this special property.”
Laurice's reviewsAs a host (2)
“Our family of four had a wonderful time at the home of Laurice and Dennis in Ojochal. This is a magnificent area with so many things to do. It is lowland tropical Costa Rica at its best. It is not heavily developed - there are no large hotels and all the beaches are public (some have a small usage fee). We went on numerous excursions - snorkeling, surfing, mangrove tours, rain forest, cocao plantations, ... by car, boat and horseback. Dennis and Laurice are friendly and very helpful hosts as well as great exchange partners. They provided excellent recommendations and made sure we were comfortable. The restaurants in the surrounding area are excellent and fresh produce abounds. Allan Silburt Ottawa, Canada.”
Where is it?
Ojochal is an International village with many restaurants, grocery stores, bakers, bistros & cafes. The locals are very friendly and helpful, the ex-pat community though wide spread due to homes being on acreage are from England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Canada, and the USA.
We are located in the Southern Zone of Costa Rica and we are within 15 mins of Uvita which has become the commercial area with banks, doctors, dentist, pharmacy, large supermarket and many restaurants. This is where you book for the many tours available.. Just some of the activities nearby include: horseback rides to waterfalls, scuba diving, snorkeling, mangrove boat tours, kayaking, whale and dolphin watching in season, national parks, canopy zip lines, hiking and bird watching.
We are a half hour drive to Dominical, famous for surfing. One hour drive to Manual Antonio Nacional Park. One hour south to Sierpe for the best boat tour into the Mangroves to see wildlife.
Secluded beaches lined only with coconut palms abound closeby. We are positioned on Tortuga Ridge with views of Tortuga (Turtle) Beach 1 km. A long stretch of beach at low tide for delightful walks with caves at one end. 3 km takes you to our favourite swimming spot, Ventana Beach. Every 2 kms there is another beach along the Coastal road which is well paved.
We recomend renting a 4 X 4 vehicle if you wish to explore off road. In the Village the main road is now paved.
We are 3.1/4 hours drive along the beautiful Coastal Road from the San Jose International airport, or should you be interested in taking a small plane we are 20 mins. drive from Palmar Sur's tiny airport which is just a 40 min fabulous flight along the coast from the main International airport in San Jose.
This is truly Paradise.
