“We had a wonderful time at Karen’s villa. We loved the ocean view and wonderful gardens right out front. The villa was super clean and you could tell at the details were very well thought out. Communication was super easy and we all had an amazing time in the area. We had a rental car and especially enjoyed visiting the beaches around Punta Uva. We were able to watch many beautiful birds in the garden right out front every day and managed to spot sloths on the beach close by. Definitely, a place we would love to stay at again!”
“Our stay in Karen,s lovely home was just wonderful! The "open-air" house was comfortable and welcoming, even when the rains came. The sound of the sea at night and the birds in the morning helped our feelings of complete relaxation. When we stirred ourselves, the beach was waiting at the bottom of the tropical garden and usually we had it to ourselves. Although the general feeling was of seclusion, it was just a short walk into the nearby lively town with its many restaurants and shops. The frontage of the local supermarket was a sight to behold and inside we found all that we needed to cook for ourselves in the our well-equipped kitchen. In our hired car it was possible to visit other beaches, each with its own style, the variety was amazing. Also a trip to the border with Panama up in the hills was interesting and we included a visit to a banana factory. Between the locals, the wildlife and the scenery we found plenty to interest us and make our trip memorable. The people who were working for Karen could not have been more helpful and unobtrusive. We do hope we can arrange another visit as we are dreaming of going back. Thank you for everything, Karen.”
“We had the most amazing point swap with Karen at her little slice of heaven called Villas Serenidad, in Puerto Viejo. I am happy to connect with anyone thinking about going here, it truly was that amazing we're still pinching ourselves. My husband and I left our four young kiddos at home with my Mom and went on a 10 year anniversary trip to Villas Serenidad. Karen was super helpful throughout - including preparing for the trip and also when we landed and were trying to navigate the best way to get to Puerto Viejo. She ultimately had a driver she knew pick us up from the airport in Limon, which was super helpful, especially after a long day of travelling. Upon arriving at VS, Xio (property manager) kindly greets you and takes you to your room where a welcomed cold beverage was waiting in the fridge. Honestly, the pictures of the place don't do it justice... It is stunning in real life. We had coffee every am in our chairs that overlooked the tropical gardens and the ocean...and we could hear and see said ocean from laying in bed. :) We spent our days walking the beach to the nearby funky cool town of Puerto Viejo, morning walks to practice yoga @ nearby Ananda Yoga Shala, which is a three minute walk. We also rented bikes and explored all of PV and the neighboring beaches. Some highlights for us - the Viejo Waterfalls, the Thai fusion restaurant in the heart of town, (Andrew, the owner, is fabulous and well traveled), his sushi and Thai food was some of the best I've ever had. Also, Playa Cocles (the surfing beach), De Gustibus Bakery and hanging at out our gorgeous villa overlooking the gardens and ocean. We also loved the Lazy Mon for sunsets and great food and drinks. We stayed in one of the one bedroom ocean view villas and the place was well stocked and if we needed a thing, we always knew we could ask Xio or Karen easily over WhatsApp. We are already planning our trip back in the bigger villa, hopefully with our kiddos! Thank you, Karen, for sharing your little slice of heaven with us. It just may have tipped us over the edge to become ex-pats in beautiful and welcoming Costa Rica.”
“Karen was an excellent guest. Always welcome!”
Where is it?
While our place is right on the beach (only a tropical garden lies between you and the surf!), you are also a 20-minute walk (by beach) or 10-minute bike ride or 5 minute car/taxi ride from the eclectic, funky town of Puerto Viejo. PV is loaded with delicious restaurants - Italian, vegetarian, local (with a Jamaican flair), Brazilian, Israeli...you name it, it seems like we've got it! The town itself also offers fun shopping and great nightlife, if you choose to partake.
In and around the area are opportunities for exploration and adventure - we know amazing tour guides to take you on jungle hikes or kayak tours; horseback riding on the beach and through the jungle; an amazing animal sanctuary (The Jaguar Rescue Center); tours of cacao farms (chocolate); opportunities to snorkel, zip line, surf....it's all nearby!
We fell in love with this gorgeous, wild, authentic area and we hope you will too!
