“We had the most amazing two week holiday in Joe and Wesley's house in Arenal, Costa Rica. When we arrived at the house we were greeted by Ronolfo who was there to give us advise and help throughout our stay and Sandra the lovely cleaning lady who kept the house beautifully tidy. Ronolfo even baked us several loaves of delicious bread! The house is the highest on the hill with spectacular, sweeping views of the volcano and Lake Arenal which change daily. Everything you could possible need was in the house and the beds were very comfortable. There was so much to do there that we were spoilt for choice. We enjoyed a 3 hour trek with horses from the village below the house, swam almost daily in the local hot springs from the volcano, visited snake and butterfly houses, swam under huge waterfalls and did lots of walking in the mountains. We also spent a lot of time at Rancho Margo which is a totally self-sufficient, organic, off the grid place where you can find the most delicious food grown on the farm and learn a bit about how to live totally off the land. Everything about our stay was fantastic and Joe and Wesley were wonderful to deal with and kept in touch throughout our stay. We would very much love to return someday for another adventure. Thanks Joe and Wesley!”
Where is it?
Arenal Volcano. Lake Arenal. Backs onto Arenal National Forest. Close to La Fortuna and Tabacon Resort. Volcano Arenal is the second-most-visited tourist attraction in Costa Rica, after Manuel Antonio. Our village is located 10 km off the main highway inside the National Park in the quaint village of El Castillo (population 300). Lonely Planet recommended, El Castillo is the perfect base to explore the many attractions this area has to offer. Within the village, you'll find horseback riding, restaurants, the butterfly conservatory, the serpentarium, canoe and kayak rentals and a pulperia (village store). Within a comfortable drive, you'll find the SkyTram, zipline tours, whitewater rafting, the Hanging Bridges, the Arenal Observatory, yoga, hiking trails, Monteverde National Park and a dozen or more hot-springs resorts to suit any budget.
Breaking news-they're filming M.Night Shyamalin's 'After Earth' starring Will and Jaden Smith in our neighbourhood month of February.
