More about us

  1. James Lee Murphy, Prof. Emeritus, Computer Sci. CSUC, Chico, California; UC Santa Cruz.
Jo Murphy Artist and Yoga Teacher, La Casa del Arco Iris Cuerpo, Cahuita, Costa Rica.

We have been married for 48 years and have a grown family.
We are retired in Costa Rica and want to visit our youngest grandchildren in Tivoli New York. There would be only 2 of us in our party of exchange. We would like to exchange for at least one month, six weeks is even better. We are healthy and live an active life. We have lived in Cahuita for 8 years. We need to be in NY long enough to catch up with these youngsters.
I would like to visit this Autumn 2013, perhaps, October through Mid November. Or the last week of September through Nov 7. We have three family birthday s during this period. We can generally be flexible. September and October are beautiful dry months here which creates calm seas. The ocean is warm year round here at 9* off the equator. This location is definitely the tropics.

Where is it?

The ocean is warm year round here at 9* off the equator. This is definitely the tropics. Cahuita Costa Rica is 27 miles south of the largest deep sea port for Costa Rica, Puerto Limon. The Caribbean side of CR has a rich and long history with the Caribbean Islands Culture. Less commercialized than the West Coast of Costa Rica, the province of Limon host the most diverse population in all of Central America… or so it was just a few short years ago. This area is its distinct culture in music and food, culture and feeling. English is spoken but it is a Spanish speaking country.
We have over five miles of beach in front of our house, usually with no one on it. Stunning setting, Physically and Emotionally, Plants, Birds, Animals, Sounds. This is not an over run Mecca, but do not look the other way too long as this area too is growing and rapidly changing. Right now it still feel is like moving back a few years…Like moving back 30 years for me. We live close to the frontier and a somewhat “simpler” experience. Look up CAHUITA, Costa Rica! Excellent Restaurants. Local music, Indigenous Tours up the river and into the jungle, Zip Line Tour, Horse Back Riding. Cahuita National Park, snorkeling, fishing, surfing. Other local yoga and dance classes, Tree of Life Botanical Garden/ Animal Rescue Center, Bird Watching, Surfing, The Reggae Bar dance nights, and Poas car rental is close at hand and delivers to your door.
There is a Sunday Market in the village for produce, eggs, local cheese. We have 2 local bakers whom I recommend. Bicycle is still a majority mode of transport here on the beach front road.
There is a clinic in our village and a small hospital with emergency room 9 miles away. As a tourist you are cared for immediately without charge. There are world class hospitals in San Jose where we have received procedures. Medical Tourism is thriving in our excellent hospitals. There are potholes in our dirt roads, but our paved highways north and south are in good condition.
