About our home

Sitting on the top of a grand vista, "The Crown of the Valley of the Saints" is a castle in the clouds that faces four volcanoes of Costa Rica (Irazu, Turrialba, Barva and Poas). The romantic house is built in the early French Renaissance style and is the visitor's safe refuge while experiencing the natural beauty and wildlife of the region.

We are in the process of finishing the La Corona castle and great improvements are made daily. We hope to have one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles and gardens in all of Costa Rica one day. Most of work we do ourselves and the castle is a labor of love.

More about us

  1. Roy and James are a couple without children. We are in our forties. Roy is a hair stylist and James is a classical music composer.

Roy is from the area. James is originally from Indiana but has lived and worked in New York City before moving to Costa Rica.

We are owners of the previous Casa Holanda bed and breakfast in Heredia, which had a successful 8 year run before moving to the mountains.

Where is it?

Need to rent a 4x4 car to enjoy your visit. However, we can have someone pick you up for $100.

Santa Cruz de Leon Cortes is located in the heart of Costa Rica. The neighborhood is rural, mountainous and agricultural. Zona de los Santos produces the best coffee in Costa Rica and the best coffee in the world. Other products include passion fruit and avocados.

Although farmed, cloud forests still survive farther up and abound with wildlife. Eagles, kites, swallows, hummingbirds; it is a paradise for the birdwatcher.

Beaches Dominical and Playa Ballena are only 2 hours away with a beautiful drive through Cerro de la Muerte and down through Perez Zeledon. The highway is completely paved and in excellent condition. We take a lot of day trips there, arriving in the morning and returning at night. It is an excellent combination, you don't have to put up with the sweltering heat and humidity of the beaches.
