About our home

From our home you will experience one of the most incredible ocean views in Costa Rica. We have a sweeping sea view south from Cano Island to Manuel Antonio in the north. Situated 1,000 ft (300 m) above the Dominicalito bay and in the mountains of Escaleras, our home is only 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the beach while high enough to catch the cooling ocean breezes. From here, you can see the waves crash on the beaches below, watch the fishing boats as they enter and leave the harbor. At night, the sounds of the ocean will lull you to sleep.

Our home has a very open feel with indoor and outdoor areas flowing into each other. Nearly everywhere has an ocean and jungle view. It has two master suites (one is air-conditioned)with queen size beds. Each has ocean views and a private bathroom with large walk-in shower. We have a large covered balcony for outdoor dining. This is a great place to enjoy morning coffee while listening to the howler monkeys announcing the day. This is truly a tropical paradise with toucans and parrots visiting throughout the day. Huge electric-blue Morpho butterflies and iridescent hummingbirds visit the lush tropical landscaping. Since the temperature rarely varies from the 80s(f), anytime is pool time. The infinity edge pool and adjacent patio are great places to pass a lazy afternoon or to watch the sunset in the evening. The family room has comfortable upholstered furniture, air-conditioning, a large flat-screen TV and about 2000 DVDs. If you choose to bring your laptop, we have high speed wifi Internet available.

Our home is nearly all on one level with the exception of one of the master bedroom suites being on a lower level and accessed by exterior stairs. For this reason, this house may not be ideal for very young children.

More about us

  1. We are a retired couple from the US. We have been living in Costa Rica for a little over five years and have had difficulty prying ourselves away from this wonderful, tropical location during that time. We now feel ready to experience a new place or two. This will be our 2nd home exchange - the first worked out great.

We would like to do a two-week, non-simultaneous exchange: someone to come here sometime in July/August, and we would go there sometime in Sept/Oct. We would enjoy a change of season/Fall type of location for this trip. We have never visited England, but are open to any ideas.

We will hope to arrange additional exchanges in the future, so let us know your ideas. Just a note: we are not looking for snow or freezing temperatures!

Our dogs (boxers) will be away from the property during your visit.

Where is it?

A True Tropical Paradise. The Southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica is one of the few places on earth where you can experience the lush mountain ridges of the rainforest as they meet the ocean. Local activities include Deep Sea Fishing, Horseback Riding, Canopy tours (Zip Lines), Surfing, Bird Watching, Hiking, Nature Reserves and so much more! There are wonderful photo opportunities.

This is a laid-back sort of place with lots of outdoor activities to choose from. There are many good restaurants, and a few excellent ones. The name of the game is "Casual" and you never need to dress up here. There are opportunities to hear live music, but you won't find upscale nightclubs, theater, etc. There are surf instructors for all levels and board rentals.

The Costa Ricans (they refer to themselves as "Ticos") are friendly and welcoming. They appreciate all attempts to speak Spanish, however there are many English speakers here.

We are not far from the equator so the temperature does not vary much: night or day, winter or summer. Some months have more rainfall than others, but we nearly always have sunshine everyday.

The closest international airport is the SanJuanSantaMaria Airport (SJO) in San Jose, Costa Rica. We are about a 3 hour drive from there, however it is very easy to catch a regional flight(Sansa or Nature Air)from San Jose to Quepos, which is only about 30 minutes from our home. You may pre-arrange a rental car from either airport. Visitors will definitely need a 4-wheel drive rental vehicle (a small SUV works well).
