About our home

My name is Isabel, I am the owner of Las Avellanas villas, the complex has only five equipped villas and is personally run by me and my brother who is my partner. Our vision combines the simple beach life with the comforts of everyday life. Each villa is a 50-square meter dwelling of balanced construction - inner gardens and outdoor hammocks. We are located only a few meters from a beach entrance. The walk to the ocean is surrounded by farms and mangroves, where wildlife can be seen - red crabs, howler monkeys, and a variety of birds and raccoons.

Designed by one of Costa Rica's most recognized architects, Victor Cañas, Las Avellanas Villas again displays Cañas unmistakable integration of inner spaces with outdoor spaces, making nature a part of every villa's spirit.

Built with materials such as reforested wood, cement, and glass, each villa is a small oasis where every detail was planned to provide tranquility for the guests... from the family-sized bedroom with a queen size bed and a bunk bed (that sleeps four), an open-sky bathroom, and teak terrace with hammocks, a equipped kitchen (fridge, coffeemaker, toast oven, hot plate, the basic stuff to cook with) with floor & ceiling fans and interior surfboard racks, private bathrooms with hot water.

More about us

  1. Isabel Amador and her brother Alejandro, decided to make a change in their lives and experience a different vibe in the majestic savannas and perfect waves of Guanacaste.

Natives from Turrialba between the Central Valley and the Caribbean coast, where they grew between sugar cane and coffee plantations, rivers and waterfalls are now living between the sea, sand and blue skys everyday.

Alejandro, is a surfer and Industrial Engineer, is the visionary project manager of Las Avellanas Villas, Isabel, a photographer, is who decided to make a dream come true.

They like to keep moving their energy in their daily activities with any other adventure that gets in their way, as well as sharing with cultures from around the world. Their philosophy is to try to make Avellanas a place to reside with the environment, wildlife and great people.

With great effort, dedication and love for the art and their land, managed to build a place considering a contemporary design, and a garden that functions as a small biological corridor which has attracted many species of the area to live with them, they built/planted the place from scratch and the property keeps getting more dense with new trees and plants every year.

Isabel loves nature and in her photographs, she tries to capture very authentic and simple small details that are often imperceptible to the eyes of many. Her work seeks to highlight the beauty of nature and the need of respecting it and caring for it.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Avellanas is not for everybody.

To be honest is not; Avellanas like much of the North Pacific of Costa Rica has gravel roads, so not many people choose to drive to this fantastic beach. Is not the biggest touristy attraction of Costa Rica, but that’s why we live here and share this paradise with the right people. If you arrive at night you might get scared of the howl of a howler monkey and you’d think is a 1 ton Gorilla, yes it can happen but the next morning you’d wake up at the sound of countless birds (and monkeys) not to be found in New York, Roma, Vancouver, Mexico City or Rio de Janeiro or Madrid.

That you have to walk 10 minutes through an amazing path to get to the beach??, well yes sorry, Avellanas does not have any hotels or houses on the beach front because is all a protected mangrove reserve so when you are on the beach you see GREEN.

That Avellanas has not public transportation? No we do not, and that prevents the place from crowding it on a Tuesday or Friday when all you want to do is walk on the beach, surf and see just cool people hanging around minding their own business.

That not many people live in Avellanas?, well no, we are about 50 people in this community we all know each other. We are blessed to swim along with turtles on the River Mouth at any given day of the year and time of the day, or witness the migration of the seasonal humpback whales from the beach...

There are not many restaurants around, there are a few here but don’t be lazy cook in your villa and when you’re tired of cooking go ahead and drive 20 min to Tamarindo and choose from thousands of restaurants.
