Our beautiful townhouse was originally built in 1885 as the home for two families. We bought the house in 2006 and started a complete rebuild of the interior keeping only the original facade. We took down all the walls and put in a new staircase. The result is a light spacious home for our family of five. We have one bedroom with a double bed, one bedroom with a bulk bed, one bedroom with a single bed, one bedroom with a short single bed and two guests can sleep on the spacious couch in the living room. We have two bath rooms, one with a tub, both with a shower and a toilet.
We enjoy our home and private garden in the middle of the city buzz. Over the last decade the neighborhood has developed into the most vibrant and cozy cool part of Aarhus with lots of cafes, restaurants, small design shops and pottery workshops. Within a few minutes of walk from the house are several grocery stores (Netto, Brugsen, Føtex), a butcher, three bakeries, and in the shopping mall Bruuns Galleri you will find a cinema, a drugstore, a book shop and several retail stores. Lots of really nice shopping to do here.
Last year a new super modern public school and kindergarten was built a few blocks from our house (our three children go there) and it is already too small - Frederiksbjerg is a very popular place for families. The school's many terraces and the big playground is open for public, it is worth a visit if you have children or if you want to meat the locals. Every wednesday and saturday there is a market at Ingerslevs Boulevard next to the school, on every other sunday it is a flee market.
We are situated right next to the train station, which makes public transportation really easy, but which also means that some noise from trains passing by the house must be expected. We put in extra thick windows though, which helps quite a lot.
Our lovely garden is totally private, we usually have berries, flowers, tomatoes and beans, feel free to pick some, while you are staying. We also have a bon fire and an inflatable pool available. The garden is entered directly from the kitchen, which makes it easy to enjoy your cup of coffee or your dinner outside. A glass of wine on the terrace in the late afternoon sun is recommended! There is easy acces to the garden from the public bike trail that runs above the railway tracks just outside our house. Bikes are easy to rent in Aarhus.
If you are looking for a bit of culture the famous arts museum, AROS, with the Rainbow Panorama, is within 10 minutes walking distance, right next to the Music House and across the street from our beautiful town hall, designed by famous Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. The new big library, Dokk1, is also worth visiting, as is the newly developed harbour, not to mention the historic museum, MOMU, a 15 min. drive away.
Our house is in the southern end of Aarhus close to the beach and the forrest. There are several sandy beaches to choose from, some small and only accessible from steep stairs, some broad and wide open. The one closest to our house can be reached within 20 min. walk, but it is not the best one. Go a bit further by bike or car and find your favorite.
There is plenty of things to see and do in Aarhus, we hope you will enjoy your stay in our house.
We have two cats living in the house, so cat lovers only! You will have to feed and look after the cats while you stay here.
