About our home

We live in the beautiful and historic city of Helsingør (Elsinore) on the north coast of Sjælland/ Zealand with views to Kronborg, Sweden and the Baltic sea. We are a 5 minute walk from the new Maritime Museum by architect group BIG which is nominated a must see by NY Times Jan 2014. The location is perfect for scenic bike routes, child friendly beaches, and many historic sites and castles are only a bike ride away. Read more on this link about bike routes and the Danish Rivieria which starts 5 min from our door step at http://www.visitnorthsealand.com/ln-int/north-sealand/activities/cycling-royal-north-sealand / Bikes will be at your disposal. The best is the location and its vicinity to scenery, historic sites, bike routes, golf course, shopping, restaurants, ferry to Sweden, trains to Copenhagen every 20 min, museums, etc.

Our house is located on one of the best streets of Helsingør as it has no through traffic and is the closest residential street to the center of Helsingør. The house is 100 yrs old and you will find it spacious both indoors and outdoors - it has been restored and decorated over time though it is not readu for Architecural Digest, so it is comfortable.

It has four bedrooms on the top floor and one bathroom with bathtub/shower. The master bedroom opens to a balcony with morning sun and a beautiful view to Kronborg, the sea and Sweden.

The downstairs has a hallway, second bathroom with shower, big dining room that will seat 16 people, two lounge areas one of which is turned into a working space/office, second lounge area with comfortable sofa, Cable TV etc. The kitchen is a fully functioning kitchen with a breakfast sitting area and opens up to the big terrace to one side and to other side into an orangerie/conservatory where we have most of our meals in the spring/summer/fall with the French feel of vines, chandeliers, iron cast furniture etc.

The garden is big and very green with two outdoor dining areas, two lounge deck chairs, lawns, and is private. You can light a bonfire at night and roast marshmallows, BBQ and host dinners if you prefer or have a drink on the terrace when returning from a day of sightseeing. We must also mention that we have the best neighbours and you will feel welcome in every way during your stay.

Neighbourhood

Visit Louisiana, Kronborg, Copenhagen, Hornbæk or take ferry to Sweden for hiking and climbing Killeen. Enjoy the best Denmark has to offer. The house has an ideal setting as you can walk to the center of Helsingør, Elsinore, in only 5 min with many restaurants, cafes, and nice shops. Every Saturday morning we walk to the city's market to buy fresh bread, greens, fish and have a coffee on one of the many cafes. The city of Helsingør dates back to 9th century with the Kronborg castle as the main attraction of course. We visit Kronborg regularly and enjoy the galleries, workshops, cafes and events that Kronborg offers. The castle is 5 min from the house. Read more on this link about scenic bike routes and the closest castles at http://www.visitnorthsealand.com/ln-int/north-sealand/activities/cycling-royal-north-sealand .

You can take the ferry to Sweden to Helsingborg with good shopping possibilities too - the ferry ride is only 20 min and they run every 20 min. You do not need a car as the train station is just 10 min from the house connecting you to Copenhagen, Sweden and beaches frequently.

There is a busy marina where our youngest son sails and a beautiful beach for volley ball, bike riding, kayaking, etc. In fact there are beaches in Helsingør and to the south and west of Helsingør. The Danish riviera starts in Helsingør and the sand beaches are all along the north coast through the beautiful fisherman's villages of Hornbæk, Gilleleje and Tisvildeleje that all have become fashionable places with excellent restaurants, shops and potential for days of relaxation in authentic surroundings. There are life guards on the beaches from end of June to the end of August.

You can make use of our 5 bikes to explore the area; we often take bike rides through the forest to an old water mill, Hammermølle, that is a museum and cafe and sit outside enjoying a sandwich/smørrebrød (smorgasbord) by the lake. This is a favorite of ours on a Sunday. On you way to the watermill you will pass soccer fields, a golf club, running tracks through the woods while enjoying the sea view at the same time. It is a unique place.

Copenhagen is 40 min by train or 30 min by car. The Modern Art Museum Louisiana is just 15 min away.
