About our home

We have a groundfloor apartment in the center of Copenhagen, in the popular Vesterbro neighbourhood. The apartment has a modern, spacious kitchen (completely renovated in 2008) with a table for 8, a large livingroom and three bedrooms - two of them are our children's rooms - and a nice bathroom. There is one kingsize bed in the master bedroom, one bunk bed (170 cm long) for two persons in one of the children's rooms, a double sofa bed in the living room and extra matresses for up to 3 extra travellers. We have wireless internet, computer, cable tv, stereo, dish washer and in our basement we have a washing machine and tumble dryer. From the apartment there is easy acces to a shared, closed courtyard, which is very sunny in the summer. There you have the possibility to BBQ and eat outside. If you are interested in borrowing our car that is also an option.

In the summer, we are open to suggestions.
February 2014 we wish to exchange with a cottage close to Oslo where it is possible to go cross country skiing.

More about us

  1. We are a family of four: Mom Hanna, Dad Rune, Selma (girl, 9 years old) and Villads (boy, 6 years old). Rune is a theatre director, Hanna is a theatre production manager and our children attend the local public school. Like many other local families, we have lived in the Vesterbro neighbourhood since we were students, and have a hard time imagining living anywhere else! We are new in Home For Exchange and hopefully looking forward to our first experience of swapping houses with a Parisian home in July 2013.

Neighbourhood

The apartment is situated in Vesterbro with easy acces to public transportation around the entire city. You will find yourselves in the bohemian Vesterbro-area, which is famous for its cafés, art galleries, restaurants, fun alternative shops and nice playgrounds. Although it is a very lively neighborhood, our small street itself is quiet, with very little traffic noise. It is close to the waterfront, The Tivoli Gardens, The Copenhagen ZOO, VEGA, movie theatres and Frederiksberg Garden. Many families live in the area, so there are 3 grocery stores in walking distance. By bicycle you can reach the old centre of Copenhagen in 15 minutes.

There are several possibilities to go swimming outdoors - in swimming facilities in the Copenhagen Canals as well as at Amager Beach Park. There are also several other beaches to be reached by train or bike.

By train (from the central station) you can reach Castle Kronborg in 1 hour, art museum Louisiana in 45 minutes, art museum Arken in 45 minutes, Roskilde Viking Museum in 40 minutes and the famous forest 'Dyrehaven' (the animal garden) in 30 minutes.

About the neighborhood (from a travel site):
Stretching to the west of central Copenhagen's picturesque cobblestones and church steeples, Vesterbro's 19th-century apartment blocks and storefronts have never lacked for color. (...) But consider Versterbro today: sparked a decade ago by a trickle, and then a flood, of young professionals, fashion designers, and artists, the neighborhood's evolution has turned it into a cleaned-up, dressed-up, downright chic destination for the city's - and increasingly, the world's - dedicated followers of cool. But in typically Danish fashion, Vesterbro has retained undertones of its previous lives: Istedgade is still dotted with halal markets and denlike student bars; and at Ricco's, a doorway-wide coffeehouse, you might sip your faultless caffe corretto while squeezed in between a retired bricklayer and a fashion major from Seoul. Granted there's not proliferation of cobblestones and steeples here; but as truly authentic neighborhoods go, it doesn't get any better.
