About our home

Our house is a living example of modern Danish architecture, straight lines, lots of light and very functional. It's situated in a charming community with lots of younger families with children - just about half an hour from Copenhagen by train or car.
We have 110 m2 distributed on two floors. Downstairs is an open space kitchen and living room with access to our private terrace where you can enjoy the sun most of the day. From the kitchen you access the green courtyard we share with eight other families. Upstairs we have two bedrooms, an office and an open room wich we refer to as "the yoga room". The bathroom with shower, washing machine and dryer is placed downstairs. We have furnished our home in typical light and Scandinavian style with room for kids.
Just 50 metres from our door is a lake where you can swim and go fish or take the rowing boat; very popular amongst the kids in the summer. In the area you'll also find a trampoline and a soccer field where it's easy to meet the local children.
We also share a vegetable garden with some of the other families; we grow potatoes and strawberries - and you a welcome to harvest what you can eat.
Our place is very children friendly, and if you like it's easy to meet new people here.
If you come here at fall or winter time you can experience the good Danish "hygge" - the cosy atmosphere of these seasons.
If you are more mature travellers you'll most likely enjoy the area as well for example you can play golf and enjoy the many cultural activities as well as the nature.
We have good experiences with including car in the exchange (we have a Ford Focus Station car).

More about us

  1. We are a family of four, Billie (2010), Knud (2014) Carlos (1978) and Grethe (1977).
Carlos teaches math, literature and sports at a Waldorf school, and Grethe is communication advisor and yoga teacher.
We love to travel, and we’ve tried changing homes five times – two times in Berlin, once in San Francisco, once in Harz, and twice in France. And we absolutely loved it. Home exchange is a brilliant way to meet new friends and explore the world.
We are especially interested in going somewhere great for children. We love nature, hiking and swimming.
We are responsible and we promise to take good care of your home.

Where is it?

Our home is situated in Kvistgård 35 kilometres from Copenhagen in an area with abundances of art, culture and nature. We live just five kilometres from the east coast of Zealand with great beaches, also known as the Danish Riviera. Within a radius of 15 kilometres from our house you'll find Kronborg (Hamlets Castle), Louisiana (an internationally renowned museum of modern art), great lakes and big woods. The local train stops just five minutes walk from our doorstep, and you'll quickly be in Copenhagen. When you want to go to the beach or explore the local sights you can borrow our bicycles or maybe we can arrange to swap cars as well. If you like to go to Sweden, the ferry is just 15 minutes away and will get you to Sweden in 20 minutes.
