About our home

Our home on the island of Vanua Levu, Fiji Islands is only 3kms from the nearby town of Savusavu. It has a great view over the bay, lots of lovely birdsong, and wonderful night skies.
The house has 2 bedrooms with a double bed in each, cooking by gas, TV, DVD and many DVDs to play. It is fully insect screened, with a front terrace to enjoy the view from, and a back terrace with a small tool shed.
This is not a resort but real life. There are lizards, frogs and fruit bats at night, it is tropical and hot. Sometimes the electricity goes off and sometimes the water goes off, but usually not for long. The sea is warm and you can snorkel just across the road from the bottom of the drive and see many colorful tropical fish.
However, comfort food is not available (no McDonalds here) but there are small local cafes and some more upmarket ones by the sea. The town is small, there are supermarkets but not everything is available, but there is a local fruit and vegetable market.
The people are extremely friendly, there is a varied expat population and a couple of clubs where you can meet people.
There are huge differences from living in a 1st world country, but these are more than made up for by other magical things about Fiji.
We do have a dog who is fun to be around and is a good guard dog too. The house comes with the dog. She is free to wander and there is only her food to prepare, but she welcomes attention of course.
If you would like to swap with our house, you need a sense of humor, a spirit of adventure, and be ready to expect the unexpected.

More about us

  1. We are a couple in our 50s, previously living in NZ. We retired early and we have lived in our Fiji home for 6 years, but travel for usually 4 months every year. We have had house sitters in the past but would be most happy to exchange our home instead.

Where is it?

Savusavu town is small but has several supermarkets, banks and ATM machines. There are small local Indian cafes, and some more upmarket ones. The people are very friendly, the life here is very casual and laid back. Its a 40 minute walk to town from our house or a very cheap taxi ride. There are a couple of night clubs, but no theatres or even a cinema. There are a couple of other clubs were expats and locals often meet.
The weather is hot, the vegetation tropical and animal life tropical. There is nothing poisonous here and no monkeys.
We have had many house sitters and have references written by them.
