About our home

The house was build in 2009. From the sitting room and dining room you have a view on the lake. There is a private beach. The house has an open plan kitchen and sitting room. There are 2 bedrooms with double beds and a study with a single bed. A bathroom with traditional Finnish sauna. There is a huge garden with goals to play some football or other outdoor games and a trampoline. A smaller cottage with the lake sauna it also has a sitting room kitchenette and you can sleep with about 4 on the attic. It has a log fire to keep it warm. You will have to use the toilets in the main house. There is a little traditional Finnish kota: A small wooden hut where you can grill summer and winter. On the lake you can swim, fish, go rowing, relax and play.

More about us

We are Sven and Johanna and we have 3 children 18, 16 and 12 years old. Johanna is a kinder garden teacher and Sven is a youth and children's worker. Sven is Belgian, Johanna British/Finnish. We have a dog (Golden Retriever), who loves everybody. She stays with Johanna's parents, they live next door. She can stay in the home if you like the company. We have been living in Finland for 14 years. We love travelling and usually we have stayed with locals. We have done 6 successful home exchanges and hope to do more.
For those wondering who the people are that are mentioned in the review, they are my parents. They take good care of our home exchangers. At the same time they will respect your privacy. Everyone has appreciated them.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Our house is in a very peaceful location, but not in the middle of nowhere. The village is 1,5 km from our house where you can find all the essentials.
You can leave straight from the home for lovely walks in the forest, horse riding, canoeing, mountain biking trails, fishing and frisbee golf. In wintertime you can go skiing, ice skating and sledging. In the area there are a lot of lakes. http://uurainen.fi/fi/208/Uurainen+in+English
1km. from our house there is a beautiful old vicarage where you can go horse riding, canoeing and in the summer there is a coffee shop. They have a facebook page: Marjoniementila oy if you would like to see photos.

The town of Jyväskylä is 30 min. drive. There you can do lots of shopping, climbing adventure park between the trees, downhill biking, downhill skying in winter, swimming pools, boat trips, dining... For more information you can go to http://www.laajis.fi/en/kesa/

In other nearby towns Saarijärvi and Laukka there's also a park for children with all kind off fun activities and petting zoo. Other activities like rafting, bowling, golf, swimming,... all about 30 min. drive.
