“In summer 2011 we enjoy our time in Marita and Altti's house in Rauma. They are very friendly and welcoming. They gave us lots of information and suggestions regarding the local area, which is quiet and secure neighborhood. It was so nice to have the experience of a real Finnish sauna!. We had a very good swap with this family and we highly recommend Marita and Altti as exchange partners.”

Where is it?
Rauma is a picturesque seaside town (approx.40 000 inhab.)with plenty of history.
The old town centre ("Old Rauma") is the largest unified historical wooden town in the Nordic Countries and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site! There are 600 buildings, mainly dated from the 18th and 19th century and nearly 200 shops!
Our house is located approx. 3 km (1,9 miles)from the market square in the heart of Old Rauma, and it´s just a stone´s throw away (300 meters/
328 yards)from the sea. There is even a small clean beach approx.500 m
(547 yd) away from our house. We have nice and friendly neighbours, who can help you under your stay, if needed.
In Rauma you can get by without a car as pretty much everything is located within a walking distance or a leisure bike-away.There is plenty to see in the idyllic Old Rauma, where people still live, work and trade. There are 600 buildings, mainly from the 18th and 19th century, along the narrow winding streets of the old town centre-and nearly 200 shops.
PLACES of INTEREST: the Church of Holy Cross(built in the late 15th
century as the church of the former Franciscan monastery). The Rauma Museum (operates in the Old Town Hall dating from 1776) and Art Museum and Rauma Maritime Museum.
And you do not want to miss the opportunity to explore the beautiful Rauma archipelago with its 300 islands.Hop onto a water bus and take a cruise to visit e.g. the Kylmäpihlaja Lighthouse Island or Kuuskajaskari Island Fortification.
Rauma is also famous for its lace, and the "Rauma Lace Week" is organised every July. Lace and Handicrafts are still the central focus of the event, but there are also all kinds of things to do for both young and old.
Other events include "Rauma Blues" in July and the "Blue Sea Film Festival"and "Rauma Festivo Chamber music festival" both in August.
The city of TURKU (approx.90km/56 miles,an hour´s drive from Rauma)is the European Capital of Culture 2011. And in NAANTALI, near Turku, is for children the popular theme park MOOMINWORLD located.
PORI(approx.52km/32 miles) to the north of Rauma is the home of PORI JAZZ,one of the biggest jazz festivals in Europe, held every year in July. In 2011 the headline artist was ELTON JOHN!!
And Finland´s capital HELSINKI, with its many attractions, is under 3 hour´s drive away.
