We bought this old stone house 7 years ago and we have now finished renovating it, while keeping the charm of this old farm. In the ground floor, there is an open, amrican-style kitchen, a small dining area with a two-story ceiling, a bigger dinig and living room, a lobby and a small guest room with a convertible. On the first floor, we have the two children bedrooms, a bathroom and a mezzanine (for computer and playing). In the top floor, there is the parents bedroom, a second bathroom with a shower and a living area with a home-cinema. The garden is rather small and has yet to be arranged, but we hope to have it done by ext summer. But there is plenty of land around the house, no fences, where children can play, ride bicycle, etc. And the forest begins just behind the house..you can climb up to over 1000 m. We hace a cleaning lady which comes once a week.
We are a family with two young children (7 and 14 years old). I am a German national, self-employed, but my wife and children are French and I would like them to learn German. This is why we would to exchange our house with a family in Germany for one school year, preferably the Freiburg area, not too far from the French border (I will have to travel frequently to France for work). We would be happy to find a family which would, in exchange, spend one year here in our house, if they can manage work-wise, to discover a charming village, new horizons and to learn French.
Actually, we bought the house here because fell in love with the place: The very small village is located on a terrace overlooking the biggest natural lake in France (lac de Bourget), with view of the Alpes. Located in a dead-end street, the neighbourhood is absolutly quiet, you can just hear the animals of the forest. Yet, it's only 20-25 minutes by car to the towns of Chambéry and Aix-les-Bains (spa, theater, cinema, restaurants, shopping, nightlife, open-air festivals in the summmer..), and a bit more than one hour to Lyons and Geneva. By TGV from Aix or Chambéry, you are in the heart of Paris in 3 hrs. The closest ski resorts of the french Alps are about 1 hour drive away. The tempertaure of the lake is 25° in summer, I swim from May to October, and the closest beach is just 10 minutes by car. There is an authentic village life, with an active "festval commitee" which organises local festivals and events and newcomers are easily made welcome if they wish to join local activities. There is an outdoor restaurant (closed in winter) and a bus service for school children. If you want to have an impression of what the village is like, you can look at the websites : http://chapelle.chat.chez-alice.fr/ and http://www.agglo-lacdubourget.fr/france/CHAPELLE-MT-DU-CHAT/page/ChapelleMtduChat.html
