About our home

This is our second home. It is in a wonderful location in mediaeval Arnay-le-Duc in Burgundy. Three bedrooms, master bedroom, large second bedroom which sleeps up to 4, and a third single. Traditional French style with oak and tiled floors & shuttered windows.

Our home is over 100 years old. It has been fully modernised whilst retaining its original features. Very clean and comfortable, with most mod cons. Large living room with 2 sofas, large TV, DVD and VCR & Hi-fi. There are also lots of games/books and videos/DVDs suitable for all ages.

French doors in the living area lead onto the patio & BBQ area. Further to the rear is the walled garden, gravelled parking area and garage (space for 3-4 cars). Rear garden is hedged and enclosed. The patio is wonderful for relaxing in the Burgundy sun, and for eating out at any time of day during the Spring and Summer. Swimming pool in the back garden in summer for cooling off in the heat.

Newly fitted upstairs bathroom/wc. Kitchen and hallway have been completely refitted in June 2006. Full central heating, well equipped kitchen with new appliances (FF, oven, gas hob, MW). Utility room with washer and dryer. Second shower room/wc downstairs. 5 adult bicycles which you can use. Everything that you need in town is within walking distance of the house. 2.5 hrs from Paris CDG airport.

More about us

  1. We are Jeremy & Mari. We are professional people (mid 40s) with 3 children, 15, 13 & 4. Jeremy is a University Lecturer and Mari works in local government.

We like travelling particularly in France. Owning our Burgundy house has given us the opportunity to enjoy great food and wine even more!. We have never done a home exchange, but we are keen to do it as some friends have had wonderful experiences from their home exchanges. When we are not at our second home we also enjoy motorhoming through France and Germany. We have tended to travel less as our bigger kids became older, so we would love to do a house exchange as a family before the 15 & 13 year old decide that they don't want to come with us at all!

Anyone wanting to use our house would be welcome most of the year. Burgundy weather is wonderfully warm from April through to September. Non simultaneous exchange would be fine! We are not looking for an exchange in 2007. We may be early but we are looking for an exchange for summer 2008 or Easter 08. We are especially interested in PORTUGAL, SPAIN, HUNGARY, CZECH REPUBLIC, ITALY BUT OPEN TO OFFERS IN EUROPSE. SURPRISE US! Please mail us and we will answer quickly! Thanks for looking.

Where is it?

Town centre + shops at top of street (2mins walk, butcher, baker, pharmacy, doctors, banks etc. Lake with beach and supervised swimming in summer, tennis courts and sports centre 500m. Fishing in River Arroux 200m.

Well stocked supermarket opposite. Neighbours to the front + rear are excellent restaurants with traditional Burgundy fare at reasonable prices. The best restaurant we have ever visited anywhere is Chez Camille! (5 mins walk). Menu of the day 20 Euros. At the end of street is town centre with charming shops, boulangerie, charcutier, etc with several small bars/cafe's etc. July & August; weekly night market with live music and entertainment. Try wonderful Burgundy wines, delicious cheeses, pates, crepes, or just pick up a bargain from the market. Alternatively just sit and watch the world go by with a cool drink at one of the pavement cafes.

The wineries of the delightful town of Beaune are 35 minutes away. Autun has a well preserved Roman amphitheatre (25-30 mins). Dijon and the airport (40 mins) Close to the west is the Parc Naturel de Morvan with stunning forests and lakes. The Cote d'Or region is relatively undiscovered by tourists, yet here is so much to see and do. Friendly welcoming locals.

We will take care of your home, as if it was our own.
