“We just spent the most wonderful week at this charming country house in Aubagne, not far from Cassis, Marseille and the sea. There were six of us, and the house was very well outfitted and comfortable for all of us. The pool provided hours of relaxation and the peaceful setting and outstanding views from the house provided one of our best vacations ever. The owners provided us with a nice booklet, showing features of the house and attractions in the area. We took a boat tour of the Calangues, as well as an easy drive to beautiful St. Tropez. We would recommend this home to anyone looking for a beautiful, relaxing vacation in the Bouches du Rhone area of France - Provence at its best!”

About our home
Our house is very easy to live in and with all modern equipments, on one floor except for two sleeping rooms on the first floor. It has a large terrace communicating with the kitchen and living room oriented south but with tree shade in the summer (very important here as sunny weather is not an issue but a fact), with a large and deep heatable outside pool fully secured for children (fences, sonar movement detector, top) with a small sauna inside the fences. The dining room, living room with home cinema and kitchen are in a semi open space; in the summertime we live on the terrace near the pool. On the main floor, separated from the main living space, we have two children rooms with 90 cm wide beds, one room with a double 140.cm-wide bed, and a playroom with TV and a foldable 140 cm wide couch . In this same room a mezzanine with ladder access with a second 140 cm wide bed, for a teenager or young adult. On the first floor, a master bedroom with a 160 cm wide bed, AC, office corner, shower room and adjacent baby room with a child single bed. Far into the back of our pine-forest-garden, a pergola (wide tent with mosquito net) in which it is possible to spend a night in the forest with an inflatable bed on the wooden floor inside the tent. Ping pong table under pine trees also, hammacks, .... we have an inflatable kayak to explore the coast. We try to be eco friendly with solar and photovoltaic pannels, veggie garden and compost.
We have a dog, an Australian Sheppard and cats who live mostly outside during the summer time but need to be fed.

Florence's reviews
As a host (2)“This is a great family home, sheltered by pines, set on a hillside above the town of Aubagne, backing up to Ruissatel, a mountain that features in those classic movies, “Jean de Florette” and “Manon of the Springs,” that are compulsory viewing for anybody planning to visit this area. A wonderful feature is the broad terrace overlooking the valley, where we ate most of our meals, with a delightful swimming pool, greatly appreciated in hot weather. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts and their two energetic dogs—and with somewhat more reserve by the three cats. We enjoyed the fresh produce from their vegetable garden, which they generously invited us to share. Aubagne itself is a pleasant, if undistinguished, southern French town, a distant suburb of Marseille. There is a market three times a week and Aubagne is notable for its pottery and for the creation of santons. But it is the surrounding areas that are most captivating. The splendid coast, with the famous fjord-like calanques, Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, the Camargue, the Luberon, the lavender fields, the Verdon Gorge and even the Côte d’Azur are all within day-trip reach. But be warned, the beaches and coastal towns are crowded in summer. The home exchange included a car exchange, which was a great asset. We found some fine restaurants, and enjoyed the rosé wines of the region. Our hosts provided us with an extensive library of maps, and guidelines for enjoying our stay. They are very tech-savvy and sustainability-minded people and the house has many amenities, including photo-voltaic panels on the roof, solar water heating, LED lighting, a sophisticated home theater set-up and modern kitchen appliances.”
More about us
-
We are a relaxed family with three children aged 9, 7 and 4. we might travel with our nanny as well. Our house is safe for children and has all the necessary utilities for kids (bicycles toys ping pong and two neighbors aged 7 and 4 next door). Mother and father , in their forties, into medicine and software planning. we are lucky to be able to feel on vacation in our own house six months a year. We have exchanged four times in Ireland and the USA and it went really well. We will do our best to treat your house as we would like ours to be treated. We have a family volkswagen touran. As for the pets we would like to take our dog with us, who is nice and not aggressive in the least and accustumed to staying outside all the time and sleeping outside. Experience shows that it is difficult to have him babysat so we would like to bring him with us in your garden or leave him in the garden in our home. Because our children are still small we do not wish to go to a big city but rather to a cooler seaside or countryside location, thank you!

Where is it?
Neighbourhood
We live in the outskirts of Marseille, the capital of Provence on the seafront, second largest french city, in exceptionnal surroundings with a beautiful and still quiet view. Our garden is 5000 m2. the area is still quite rural with farms and is one of the last areas of marseille free from excessive urbanisation. Our house is at the end of a dead end small private road, dominating the pine tree landscape, with a view on the Sainte Baume mountain. We guarantee your tranquility in our home. Two friendly neighbors on each side (but with privacy). the pathes of a national reserve of hills dominating the Marseille bay pass Right next to the back of our garden, perfect for hiking. True Provence is all around us, and easily accessible by car, you can find Aix en Provence, Var and its beaches, famous Cassis and its southern fjords ("calanques") 20 minutes away with clear deep blue water, Lubéron, Camargue, the Verdon gorge and lake and springs, and farther away cote d'azur. Central down town Marseille (second biggest city in france) is of course 15 km away . Our house can offer easy access to Marseille and its bustling downtown and beaches, or a relaxed day near the pool, in the hamacs or in the hills in the greenery at walking distance. A small village is at a 5 minute walk with a small grocery and bakery store; a huge american style mall at a 10 minute drive, and highway access is 10 minutes away. Typical three-time -a -week Food Market in the small town nearby .
