About our home

Typical French provincial house. It is not a glamourous house but it is large and makes a great home. 3 levels with a terrace in the sun on top. There are 2 large bedrooms, 5 x 4 m and a third bedroom I use as an art studio. 7 seperate rooms in total with a large terrace that is ideal to relax in the sun, entertain or do some painting. There is also a sunlight area which is nice to sit and read having a glass brick skylight from above. There is another studio room that I use for bookbinding with lots of benches and work area. It would sleep 6 easily but there is a lot of area for more if you have a large family. There is a piano room come family area that I have a yamaha clavinova piano and midi setup for playing or composing all kinds of music. 2 computers with high speed broadband. If people are interested I would prefer to leave all my bookbinding and artists tools and equipment available for use provided people do not abuse them.

More about us

  1. I am an Australian artist master bookbinder who came to France for 3 months and stayed 5 years. I was in business until I was about 40 and retired to live my life, doing things and creating beautiful pieces of art. I just love this place and all its culture, people and history. Australia is one of the most beautiful countries but here is so amazing and close to everything. It is like a postcard picture every day for me exploring this beautiful place. I am very clean and tidy and live a good lifestyle. I know how to respect another persons home as I have travelled extensively throughout the world. I believe I have good values and interests and can easily get on with friends and neighbours so you will not be embarressed on your return. I would prefer longer term exchange of 1 to 6 months. I have no children to bring but maybe my partner. She has a house of her own and not sure yet if she wants to come. If you do not speak French it is not a problem as I will leave full information on where services are and what to do and the local systems and guides all in english just to make life easy. I also love animals although I do not have any pets myself. I can baby sit cats or pets (small ones) and you are also welcome to bring them here.

Where is it?

Beaucaire is a very beautiful town on the Rhone river, amazing history with lots of roman ruins and ancient buildings in the area. It has a beautiful marina and streets with festivals and restaurants in the sun. It is also the centre of Vincent Van Gogh territory where he lived and painted - arles, st remy, tarascon within 15 minutes. Amazing scenery for artists with the famed sun and light. A little further you have Marseille, avignon, beaches and mountains. Hiking, bike riding, horse riding, running of the bulls, bullfights arena, opera, vineyards, historic monuments and buildings, carmarge nature reserve and the French riviera. Or you can hop on the TGV fast train and go to Paris in 2 and half hours. We have an airport at Nimes where there are cheap Ryan air flights throughout europe. I recently travelled to UK and back for 20 euro total. Spain, Italy and Switzerland are within 4 hours drive. Or you can just sit in the sun and paint , write your great novel or nod off to sleep. The people and cafes are great and I am sure everyone will have an easy time making friends and fitting in to the lifestyle here. There are many nationalities living on the marina who meet at the local fresh veg market, flea market or many festivals that go on regularly here. People just relax and enjoy life for what it is.
