My husband and I completely restored this house 4 years ago. We both love architecture and are purists at heart. So we have used natural materials to create a family home that is both comfortable and cosy. All the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with their own W.C. The 3 reception rooms are spacious, and furnished with period French and English furniture. In the summer we live outdoors where we love eating dinner watching the sunset through the vines, and in the winter the fireplace in the Kitchen/breakfast room adds a cosy atmosphere to our dinners à deux. The Kitchen is modern with granite tops and very well equipped.
Nicolas and I have 3 adult children between us, one living in London, one in Paris and one in Auckland. I am an estate agent selling mainly country houses and vineyards estates to an International Market, and Nicolas deals with Insurance for English speaking people with property throughout France. We love to travel and get away from our demanding lives here in France. We have not done a house swap before and are keen to try this as a way of seeing the country we visit from a different angle than a hotel room. We have made our home lovely and fell that someone will be delighted to spend time here too.
We live on the edge of a very quiet village, but only 3 kms from a bigger village with all amenities. It is a wine growing area and so there are mostly vineyards intersperced with woodland. It is rolling country and this part of Entre-deux-mers is considered the prettiest area around Bordeaux. We are 15 minutes from St Emilion where there are many fantastic restaurants, and Bordeaux offers great shopping, culture and gastronomie. There are many historic castles to visit as well as the famous wine chateaux, Bastides and Roman churches. The Battle of Castillon is re-enacted every summer by local actors. A wonderful climate here make it an excellent base for a holiday, and the Atlantic coast is just 75 minutes drive. There is a lake with beach just 4 kms away. Also several golf courses within an easy drive. Tennis court in the village which is always available!
