About our home

Etoile du Sud is our second home. It has the most wonderful views over the village of Callas and the Maures Hills in the South of France. It's tranquil but not remote which we feel gives the best of both worlds.

The house has 3 double bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, two of which are ensuite. We have tried to make it as much a home from home as possible and guests who stay there credit us on the fact it has everything. Outside we have 200 olive trees which are pruned and harvested each year so there's always our own olive oil in the property for everyone to use. The swimming pool is approx 25ft x 12ft, is saline and heated. We don't open it up until end of May and it's close at the beginning of October. Outside of these months the nights are a bit chilly and so makes it difficult to heat. Being on the borders of Provence and the Cote d'Azur It really is a very beautiful part of the world. There are lots more details of the villa and its environs at www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/etoile

We also have a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom house 30 minutes south west of London, England that could possibly be available but would need to be a simultaneous exchange as is our permanent home

More about us

  1. We're a couple in our 50's with no children and love nothing better than to be travelling. Our best time for exchange is December/January. During our summer months it's usually quite difficult for us to take more than a week or 10 days.

  2. We both work in TV production. We enjoy our rugby immensely and support the Harlequins club in London. When travelling we prefer the outdoors to museums. We like comfort but in natural surroundings as opposed to built up areas but not totally remote so we can't experience local restaurants and meet the local people.

  3. We take pride in both our homes so we would look after yours as we would our own. The UK home was completely renovated and extended in 2009 and the same with our villa in the South of France. We can do non-consecutive exchanges with our french home.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Our village of Callas is a 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk with it's own bakery, little convenience store, post office, wine shop, Tabac and several bars and restaurants. It's very old, evident in it's windy streets and tall narrow buildings. A market comes on Saturdays when everyone turns out to handle and purchase the fresh goods and have a coffee or glass of wine and a natter. The next village of Bargemon is very picturesque with more restaurants, bars and shops. The Gorge du Verdon 45 minutes north of us is a spectacular drive, lots of activities such as white water rafting, sailing, canyoning, hiking etc. We rent the villa in the summer so July and August generally would not be available unless we are doing a like for like exchange. The warm months are May to September but much of the year is wonderfully sunny with Azur skies which even though a little chilly means you can still sit outside in the restaurants and bars. If you are a golf player then you will find beautiful courses in abundance, the closest of which is 15 mins away. In winter good ski fields can be reached in less than two hours at Auron, Isola 2000, Valberg. We often go for 2-3 days and stay over. The Cote d'Azur including St Tropez and the lovely beaches this part of the world has to offer are 40 minutes away. The border with Italy is only an hour's drive away. A friend of ours goes weekly to the market to buy his coffee and cheeses! Closest Airports: Nice (1hr) or Marseille (1' 20)
