About our home

The house is located in a village called Thoiry in eastern France at the foot of the Jura mountains close to the border of Switzerland (we are 20 min away by car from the Geneva International Airport). It is situated in a very quiet and perfectly safe residential area and is built in French traditional mountain "chalet" style with stone walls and wood panelling inside. It has three bedrooms + two bathrooms + a TV room with a bedsofa that we use for guests. Of the three bedrooms, one has a double bed, the second bedroom has a single bed and the third room has a bunkbed for two persons. There is a large open living room / kitchen / dining room with a fireplace. The house has both air conditioning and a heated swimming pool. Guests will be able to use a computer with ASDL internet access. A visiting family will find plenty of toys, videos and computer games for the kids.

Where is it?

Thoiry has 4000 inhabitants and has a few shops and bars/restaurants in the center (one restaurant is excellent and has a Michelin star) and a large shopping complex on the outskirts. The house is a few min away from the walking trails in the Jura mountains. Visit for example the famous Chamonix village at the foot of Mont Blanc (the highest mountain in Europe) which is an hour by car away. Boat trips on Lake Geneva (the largest in central Europe) are popular or drive around the lake and visit the quaint French and Swiss towns and villages on its shore. Or go to the charming ancient French town of Annecy with its clean mountain lake surrounded by majestic mountains. A meal in a 3-star restaurant like that of Marc Veyrat's on the shores of Lake Annecy is not simply a meal but a gastronomical experience of a lifetime. For someone interested in fine wines we are living a few minutes away from the Swiss vineyards and a few hours away from Burgundy, the home of some of the most famous wine producers in the world. In surrounding France we have not only Annecy but also Evian (famous for its mineral water), Lyon (the second largest city in France),Grenoble, Bourg-en-Bresse, Aix-le-Bain, Divonne (with one of Europes largest casinos), Albertville. In Switzerland, Geneva, Lausanne, Montreux, Nyon, Berne ...and a bit further away the places for the rich and famous...Gstaad, Davos, Zermatt, Interlaken etc.
