About our home

Our family home is a modern 5 level ski chalet with 8 ensuite bedrooms with baths/showers. It is in the chalet-style with timber cladded and plaster walls. There is a full equipped spacious kitchen, dining and living area leading out to a terrace garden with views across the Meribel Valley. We have lots of books, movies and WIFI internet.

If you are travelling with young children we have plenty of toys and books to keep your little ones occupied!

Entrance level has a hallway, broom cupboard, TV/games room, laundry and sauna with shower/toilet.
On the first level there is a large combined lounge/dining area with central fireplace leading to a terrace and balcony. There is a modern fully equipped kitchen with 2 ovens and an electric hob. There are 3 ensuite bedrooms on this level - one with twin beds set up for our 4 year old son, one king sized double and one room with cot.
On the 2nd level there are 4 bedrooms (one of which is currently set up as a yoga room). On the 3rd level there is a loft bedroom which is currently set up as an office. All bedrooms except the loft have balconies. There is parking for 4 cars outside the Chalet and 3 garages underneath which are not available for visitors.

This is our primary residence. We live here for 7 months of the year but the Chalet is rented to a tour operator for the winter season between early December and late April and is not available for exchange at these times

Where is it?

The house is a 5 minutes easy walk in to the village for daily provisions, bread and newspapers as well as bars & restaurants.
It is situated in the lively French resort town village of Meribel and has two supermarkets, post office, several bars and restaurants and lots of activities.

The local cinema shows English movies once or twice a week in summer season.

Meribel has an Olympic Centre with swimming pool, climbing wall and ice rink as well as a golf course, adventure park, tennis courts, kids activities (inflatables, trampolines, golf & bike/skate park) and lots of mountain biking and hiking trails. There are lots of local campsites and refuges you can visit too.

Meribel is a perfect base for travelling and exploring this area of France as well as Italy and Switzerland too. It is an easy drive to northern Italy either via the Frejus Tunnel or over the Petit St Bernard Pass which is about an hour away. We are located just 1.5 hours from Geneva/Chamonix (Mont Blanc) and Les Deux Alpes, 2 hours from Lyon and 5 hours to the South Coast.

There is a direct train link via Chambery to both Torino/Turin in Italy and Paris in 4-5 hours depending on which train you take. Train tickets range from 50 to 100 Euros return per person in the summer months. Please visit for more info (English language site).

Day trips are possible to Grenoble (1.5 hrs), Bourg Saint Maurice (35 mins), Tignes (1hr) where you can ski on the glacier in summer. There is a large outdoor swimming and activity area (with riverside cycle path) at Aime about 30 minutes away and a International Championship standard canoe slalom course and rafting river. The beautiful medieval town and lake at Annecy is 1 hours scenic drive away.

It can also be a good place to see the Tour de France as there are several mountain passes (cols) nearby which are often used in stages of the Tour. This is the perfect place to base yourself if you are a keen road biker as there are lots of challenging hills to climb up.

If you are a keen hiker there are several national parks and kms of hiking trails in all directions.

Please visit the following websites for more information of all the activities available.

Being in the mountains our weather can be variable but usually the summers are warm (25 to 30 degrees) without getting too hot & sticky thanks to the mountain breezes. Weather can be changeable sometimes in August with summer thunder storms but generally these come & go very quickly. The days are long and it usually gets dark at 9/9:30pm mid-summer which means you can take advantage of this and dine out, have a game of boules at the local park or go for a walk long in to the evening.
