About our home

Our vacation house is located on a small island in the Atlantic Ocean. It can only be accessed by boat (and private airplanes), which considerably slowed development on the island. This is why it has retained much of its original character and wilderness. The house is an old fisherman?s home, totally renovated 6 years ago. Although it is a simple home, it has all modern amenities needed to offer you a comfortable stay, but no TV, no computer and no fixed phone (movie theater, internet café and cell phone network available locally). It features a large kitchen/dining room, a living room, a master bedroom, two large bedrooms which can comfortably host two children each, and two bathrooms. There is a stone terrace to take meals outside and a quarter acre yard for the children to play. Part of the yard has flower beds with pink hydrangeas (which are very typical in the area).

More about us

  1. We are a family of six: Patrick (48), Adeline (45), Quentin (19), Raphaëlle (17), Alexis (14) and Juliette (10). Patrick works in an industrial group and Adeline in corporate banking. We have already traveled quite a little and have lived for 5 years in the US. We love the outdoors as well as cultural activites. In Austria and Switzerland, we are only looking for houses (chalets. No appartments) in the Alps, or possibly a place in Wien or Salzburg. We also own a little fisherman's house on an island off the Atlantic coast, south of Brittany, called Ile d'Yeu (see homeID 39853). This house (which has been fully renovated over the past 6 years) is also available for an exchange, combined with our main Paris home or separately. It is a great place for a family which enjoys a way of life close to nature: the island is still quite wild, we have no car there and like many people only move around by bike. It has plenty of different beaches, all within 1/2 to 4 miles of our home.

Neighbourhood

Ile d'Yeu is a small island (3 by 7 mi) in the Atlantic ocean, 15 miles off the coast of Vendée, which is just south of Britany. Half of the island is moderately developed with fishermen villages and vacation homes (not a house over two stories). The other half is a natural reserve which you will enjoy exploring by bike like most visitors (we supply no car but bicycles). There are miles of sandy beaches, as well as many hidden coves nested in the rocky coastline. In the main village, Port-Joinville, are all the stores; several restaurants, a supermarket (groceries are home delivered for a moderate fee), even a small movie theater. Please check www.ile-yeu.fr for more details.
