About our home

We live on the hill of the Croix-Rousse in Lyon, a quarter well-known for its quietness, its charm and a singular spirit. Though very near to the city centre, you feel like you're living in a village. This is a safe, multicultural and family friendly area, people are really nice and kind here.

Our flat is a beautiful and quiet former silk workshop from 1830 converted today into an apartment, typical from this area, with lovely stone walls and french wooden ceiling (3,70m). We have a comfortable living-room open on the kitchen with a sofa, a table for 4 to 6, a bathroom with bath, 1 parent half-level bedroom (1,60m high) with double bed and 2 kid bedrooms on ground floor quiet and well-protected from street noise with lot of toys.

The apartment is situated in a safe and animated area, excellently located for exploring the city both culturally and socially with all conveniences within walking distance. We are 5 min from a funicular subway and it takes 15-20 mins to get to Lyon city centre with all that it offers like the largest urban park in France with a free zoo and many activities for the children.

There are supermarket steps away from home as well as other smaller shops, artists, creators, cafes, restaurants and a lovely daily market. You can spend few days just in the local area and you won't get bored. It's a very family orientated residential area, we just love it.

Where is it?

Lyon is a pleasant and human-sized city, known for its historical and architectural landmarks - antic and renaissance - recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city has developed a reputation as the French capital of gastronomy with lots of restaurants and above all a genuine culinary culture, due in part to the presence of many fine chefs including Paul Bocuse.

The old medieval part of the city named Vieux Lyon – Old Lyon has narrow cobblestone streets that pull travelers back a few centuries. It mixes stone buildings as well as Renaissance-style architecture, complete with soaring towers, spiraling staircases, and buildings painted in shades of red and yellow.

Not to be missed are the traboules in the Croix-Rousse and Vieux Lyon, semi-secret passageways that run underneath and between buildings and had more than one use throughout Lyon’s history.

The surrounding is also well serviced with excellent transport links to all the attractions from the region. By car you can reach Grenoble (1h) an its mountain landscapes, Annecy (1h30) or Genève (1h30) and their lakes or Chamonix Mont Blanc (2h) and its top sumits. Vineyards
from Côtes du Rhône (1h), Beaujolais (30min) and Burgundy (1h30) wine countries are close enough to envisage a daily trip.

We will be very happy to provide notes on our neighborhood and our best suggestions to appreciate your stay in the region.
