About our home

We live in a period detached villa in rural Central France. It is set in a two acre garden with swimming pool and riverside. The area is renowned for its bird and wildlife, quiet roads that are ideal for driving and cycling. There are lots of lovely walks or you can just relax beside the 5m x 10m swimming pool. We have owned the house since 2004 and love living here.

It is just a 10 minute walk into the small but dynamic village that has two bakeries, a butcher, a small well-stocked general store, bar and restaurant. You can experience a truly French experience here with historical villages, nearby Loire chateaux and vineyards. We are only 50 minutes from the excellent Beauval zoo or amazing Futurescope park.

The house sits in its own grounds and consists of a self-contained two bedroom apartment with balcony overlooking the garden, which is very suitable for a couple or small family. The apartment can also be connected to the main house which has three
bedrooms, a bathroom and downstairs shower room. The whole house easily caters for a large family or group of friends.
There are bikes, a trampoline and a small rowing boat available for use. We would also consider the loan of our old but reliable french car if that was needed.

Jackie's reviews

As a host (1)

More about us

  1. We are a British couple in our sixties who moved to France about 15 years ago. We have five children and nine grandchildren, most of whom live in the UK with the exception of a daughter, son-in-law and grandson living in Japan.

  2. John is a retired teacher who plays guitar and writes songs. He is currently working on his first novel. Jackie has worked in charity for over thirty years and still does occasional project work for UK charities.

  3. We both love searching out 'treasures' at local brocantes (flea markets), doing small renovation jobs on furniture, so our house is quite 'eclectic' but very homely.

Where is it?

We live in a Natural Regional Park called Le Brenne. It is an area of about 3000 small man-made lakes (etangs) that were originally created by medieval monks for building and fishing. The birdlife and wildlife here is outstanding.
We are surrounded by lovely old french villages; Angles sur l'Anglin is one of the 'most beautiful villages in France' - a must for a visit. Local chateaux and museums give a sense of the history of the area and just an hour away are the famous chateaux of the Loire (Chenonceux, Villandry etc.) If you like piece and quiet then explore the tranquil network of rivers that make up this area.
In the summer the sunflowers are spectacular.
There is a zoological park just 6 kms up the road and just 50 minutes away is the famous Beauval Zoo that is one of the top ten world zoos. You can see the baby giant panda; Yuan Meng who was born in 2017, the first giant panda born in France.
Basically this is a great place to visit and explore.....

Buzzy restaurants
This is not a 'tourist' area so you can enjoy some wonderful french cooking using local foods. Or if you buy delicious food from the local markets, boulangeries and boucheries.
