“We were able to stay in this property in mid December 2017 for a three night swap .The owners Jill and Tony kindly gave up their larger apartment so we could all be accommodated as one family which sounded ideal .They were driving from the uk and agreed to move straight into the smaller apartment .The property consists of a semi detached ski chalet with two apartments the smaller three bedroom apartment in the basement and the larger five bedroom apartment on the ground floor with three attic bedrooms .The property we stayed in had the five bedrooms and according to the site can accomadate up to twenty people .The bedrooms are all small one bedroom even having a double bunk on top of another double so a bit of a bunk up all round For close family or groups of young skiers it works ok but not particularly comfortable , i would advise more suitable for eight rather than 10+.if you want space and comfort .The apartment was lovely and warm with lots of hot water and several bathrooms. Our grandchildren loved the large circular bath, we were able to bath them all together which was great. there was a utility room to dry boots coats etc The kitchen was well equipped , there was a large dining table unfortunately not enough seating for our group to eat all together but that was ok we ate in relays There was a functional lounge with lots of leather sofas and a television .I would recommend to bring some DVDs with you .There is sky box but this was not working whilst we were there I suspect the owners and their fanily were using it in the basement apartment .This was not a problem for us as adults but it would have been great to have some DVDs for the kids .The apartment has a small table football game which our grandkids lovec also a small amount of outside space big enough for the kids to have fun building snowmen and playing in the snow .We managed to buy sledges too so fun was had on the mild slopes in town .We left the sledges for future guests to enjoy .The apartment is situated on the outskirts of the town .This would not have been a problem if we were a party of just adults but we had several little children and with snow and ice no pavements and a pushchair was actually quite lethal we did it once .We then had no option but to take taxis which were exteamly expensive 120 euros return in two taxis .We hadn’t factored this into our budget and if we had stuck to our plan of hire cars would not have been an issue .We were unfortunate the owner Jill gave us the wrong advice , we had booked hire cars from Geneva airport , Jill persuaded us we didn’t need transport when we got to her place so we cancelled the hire cars , this ended up very expensive for us . Because we were going to be car less I arranged meals to be prepared and delivered they weee a great success it expensive .If we had had to transport ourselves into the village it would have added 120 euros on to the evening entertainment. We didn’t actually get to see the town at night which was a shame as all the Christmas lights were on and Carol service etc as again we were put off because of the price of taxis. It actually resulted in us being pretty stranded as again the advice that the buses would be running turned out not to be true We only found that out on our first day inquiring at the tourist info office . Just a little bit of advice to those using transfers if I hadn’t the insight of doing a supermarket dash on our way from the airport when we stopped to get the kids a drink we would have arrived at lunch time to absolutely no food or drink , the closest supermarket is a40 min walk away and the local baker was shut .The other issue was 250 Euro cleaning charge ; this was actually the discounted rate normally 35 euros per person which is extortionate .We left the property as we found it washing linen etc as were aware the family were moving straight back into the larger apartment after we left so being helpful. The owner Jill states in her house details she doesn’t charge cleaning for swaps just points and ours was a swap so a bit of a grey area and needs clarifying. Sadly this situation resulted in a lot of upset and confusion. It is a lesson to me to always check out transport arrangements my self not to rely on owners assumptions and understand cleaning costs fully before signing on the dotted line . In retrospect I would been better to have had aswap in town or rented somewhere when coming with lots of little ones. The holiday not including the flight but including cleaning transfers taxis and i had to factor in that Jill didn’t pay the agreed cleaning charge at our house resulted in a 1400 euros + for our three night break . So slightly aggrieved the owner Jill took no responsibility for the extra costs we entailed just made excuses ,no apology for giving us the wrong advice .To sum up, we enjoyed our stay and the grandchildren will remember the holiday for the fun they had in the snow and maybe if we had come in season with no issues of transport this would be a very different review .---------------------------------------------------------------------HOST'S RESPONSE---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I apologise for the length of the reply however Julie’s comments necessitate clarification, if after reading the comments you wish to have further information please ask. We have done about 40 swaps, the reviews on both apartments speak for themselves. We believe that this supports that our listing is informative, transparent and accurate. Part of an email written by Julie just after her half of the swap 6 months ago reads - just to say what a wonderful time we had, a magical town for the children and the fact we had all that snow what a bonus .My son Andrew and my daughter Sarah even had a chance to ski yesterday morning. There was no mention of any other issues! For the last 3 years we have had housesitters living on site, this year it was Sarah, a very kind lady who has lived in the area for many years and offers very good advice. My, and Sarah’s, recollection of events differs to Julie’s. Sarah and I liaised with all swappers pre stay, we do not recommend that Julie hire the 2, 9 seater vans she initially hired, nor did we suggest she cancel them. Sarah emailed Julie prior to her arrival to advise ski buses were not running during her stay. Julie choose to cancel the vans and given that heavy snow was due, (and came in abundance), it would have been very stressful for 2 people to drive the vans, in an area and conditions that would have been unfamiliar to them, knowing that they would need to stop to put snow chains on, especially as they were now altogether in one apartment and didn’t need transport to move between them. Maybe this was the reason Julie choose to cancel them? They also made a massive cost saving, (we reckon van hire for 2 vehicles, baby and booster seats, snow chains, fuel and parking charges in town would have been close to £2000) Sarah sorted transport into town and was provided by a contact of hers. He took 10 people into town for 30 euros, 3 euros pp. The other 2 walked. Sarah brought basic shopping supplies for Julie, free of charge, after Julie declined the offer of a trip to the shops. On her other points our listing states for 16 people, the number of beds, not 20. Ski chalets bedrooms are usually small, that said the master bedroom has a king size bed, with room to walk around both sides, bunk beds and a big ensuite, with the big bath Julie’s grandchildren enjoyed. Ski buses run when the slopes are officially open, the slopes opened early last season, I walked in ski boots with my children to the slopes carrying skis, (my youngest child was 10) so anything is possible, the nearest supermarket is a 15 minute walk, or 5 minutes on the bus. There are Sky boxes in both apartments with separate feeds so they work independently providing free sat channels as stated, the apartment Julie used has 2 feeds so it’s possible to record. Julie could have asked, as we were on site, if she could not work anything. There are 2 shelves of DVD’s. The Dining table seats 8 and has 2 extensions available to increase it comfortably to 12. There are other tables in the apartment. Julie had 12 in her party. Outside space, the garden is at least 50 metres long by 10m wide, there is a hot tub in a separate area of the garden and a sloping field at the end of the garden where they used their discs and were offered our sledges, they played in the garden for hours in the snow. Julie did not pay any of the costs for the apartment she used, we only charge them for points swaps, she paid for the lower apartment to be prepared and cleaned for us as we initially agreed to swap our smaller apartment but her rental fees, for an apartment for her daughter elsewhere doubled, this fee was agreed in lieu of rent to save Julie hiring a second apartment elsewhere. WE paid increased cleaning costs for 12, not the initial 7 we agreed to, for Julie and her family to stay in the bigger apartment. Our cleaning fees are clearly written on our page. Ironically they were equal or marginally cheaper than the £190 for 6, Julie wanted to charge us in Scotland. As visitors to ski resorts, in season know, it can be expensive, Julie’s mention of 1400 euros for 12 to holiday for 4 days in a ski resort, with the slopes open, is remarkably good value and was considerably cheaper, and more enjoyable, after we gave her our bigger apartment and she made the decision to cancel her vans.”
Jill's reviewsAs a host (5)
“It was our first experience with LoveHomeSwap. Many thanks to Jill for her hospitality, communication and organization our rest. Her property was clean, very comfortable and equipped with all needed things for wonderful rest. The property is suitable for children, many different games, mini football. My little 4-year-old son was delighted. With any problems helped to cope the nice, young housewife. We went skiing and from home to the mountain did not get more than 20 minutes by car, if there were more snow we could get even faster from the lift in the village of Morzine. Once more many thanks to Jill. ”
“Jill’s house was an amazing base for our holiday with three teenage mountain-bikers. It's a beautiful family home with all the facilities you would need for a large group. The spacious layout of the house is fantastic. There was plenty of space for everyone, ideal for teenagers chilling on the sofas and adults de-stressing on the veranda. It was so easy to prepare a meal, dine and clean up afterwards. The bedrooms were exceptionally comfortable and having all the bathrooms was great with the teenagers. We fell in love with the house and ended up suffering from a serious dose of House Envy! The chalet is in such a picturesque location, and for the outdoor enthusiast there is so much to do and explore in the surrounding areas. Jill was a fantastic host, who thoughtfully was in touch during our stay to check that everything was ok. Communication at all times was excellent and even though we never met Jill, we were made to feel so welcome in her home. We couldn't recommend this house enough. Hosts, location and comfort were simply splendid!”
“Jill was a wonderful person to do a swap with as she is very experienced, flexible and easy going. She had thought of everything we needed to discuss and decide on, for example towels and how much to clear out our homes. It was a very successful swap and she left my home immaculate. Thank you Jill and family! ”
