Our apartment
The 76m2 (818 square feet) apartment is on the fourth floor of a building built in 1890 in the northeast of Paris (19th arrondissement). Facing southwest, it is light and airy. It is made up of a large open L-shaped living-dining-room-kitchen, two bedrooms, a large bathroom with a bath, and a separate WC. It can sleep 3-4 comfortably (one double bed/1 or 2 singles) and there is a baby cot if necessary.
There is a working fireplace, DVD/TV with cable access, broadband and a stereo.
A parking space could be made available and we also have a couple of bikes you could use.
Something about ourselves
We are a Franco-British couple: Tom is British and an editor and Delphine is Parisian and a graphic designer; our daughter Aiko was born in March 2010. We both love travelling and this is our first attempt at home swapping. As freelancers we are free to exchange flats outside of school holidays and to do non-simultaneous swaps. We will be happy to help you with tips for restaurants, contemporary art exhibitions, and ways to have a great time during your stay in Paris that might not feature in your guidebook.
Our neighbourhood
We are five minutes walk from the Bassin de la Villette, a wide stretch of canal with cafés, two cinemas, and rowboats to hire; follow it down for 15 minutes and you are on the Canal Saint-Martin with its great nightlife, bars and restaurants. It is 10 minutes walk to the park at La Villette where you'll find the science museum, Cité de la Musique, concert venues (Cabaret Sauvage, La Trabendo and Le Zénith) and the Géode panoramic cinema; 20 minutes walk to perhaps Paris' prettiest park, the Buttes Chaumont.
The apartment is 300 metres from the 104, Paris' newest arts venue (www.104.fr) and a swimming pool is two minutes away.
The nearest Métro station is 200 metres from the front door (line 7) and it is direct to Opéra/Galeries Lafayette and the Louvre in 20-25 minutes, and Île Saint-Louis/Notre Dame and the Marais in 30 minutes. Montmartre and Sacré Coeur can be reached in 30 minutes on foot or 15 minutes by Métro.
There are two large supermarkets five minutes away, a market twice a week and a selection of restaurants and bars.
