Where is it?
The neighborhood: Paris is divided into 20 neighborhoods called "arrondissements". each "arrondissement" has its own character and personality. The western half of Paris is more "bourgeois" and affluent, the eastern part more popular, mixed and affordable. Place Franz Liszt, so called because the musician and composer lived in this neighbourhood during his stay in Paris (1830-35), is located in the middle, between the two sections. It is a diverse residential area with residences and small businesses. It was completed in 1822, a half-century before the majors changes brought about by the famous Prefet Haussman who envisionned Paris as it is today. The area is near the big department stores (Printemps, Galeries Lafayettes...), which are three subway stops away and the Opera House, which is four subway stops away. The closest subway station is only five minutes from the apartment on foot. The Butte Montmartre which can be seen from the balcony, is a scenic 20 minutes walk away. The area has many shops; including the covered market Saint Quentin, which is the largest of its kind in Paris. Here one can find a wide variety of fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables at reasonable prices. Two major train stations are 15 minutes away on foot. From the Gare du Nord, the express train Eurostar transports you to London in just 2 hours and 15 minutes. You can also spend a day in Brussels, which is only 1 hour and 20 minutes on the express train first class Thalys.
