Where is it?
Located close to the famous Pere Lachaise cemetary, this is a lively and authentic Parisian neighborhood favored by artists. Full of restaurants, cafes, shops, bakeries, butcher shops, pharmacies and parks. Buses and metro are at your doorstep, 10 minutes by metro to Champs Elysees, Place de l'Opera, Place de la Concorde.
There is an open air market on Tuesdays & Fridays on the boulevard in front of our apt. Otherwise there are several small 'supermarkets' just a minute or two away.
One of Paris's oldest, largest, open air markets at the Place d'Aligre is just 10 minutes away by bus. I sometimes think I could never live anywhere else in the world because I'd miss the 'Marche d'Aligre' where, for a very modest amount you can get the best produce in Europe. If you like food and enjoy cooking don't miss it.
On weekend mornings after having croissants and coffee for breakfast we like to go for a run around the lake at the beautiful Buttes Chaumont park, one of the biggest parks in Paris.
The area is full of restaurants, on the corner of my street, you'll find three 'bistrots' serving traditional French dishes and the neighborhood is full of 'ethnic' restaurants - Turkish, North African, Lebanese; 'Chinatown' is a few blocks away on rue de Belleville where you find not only Chinese, but great Vietnamese & Thai food.
