About our home

We are offering a stone built detached house set in 1/4 acre of enclosed South facing lawned garden with a 1/2 acre field attached. The house boasts original features and has lots of character with original wood beams and doors throughout. There are 3 large double bedrooms; the largest being the attic room which can fit in an additional double sofa bed if required. There is also a travel cot available. All bedrooms face the garden and have stunning views. There is a large kitchen diner with farmhouse dining table and seperate living room. Also for your use is a large variety of equipment for al fresco dining and relaxing with that French Chardonnay under the plum trees. There are also lots of things for the children such as paddling pool, garden games, family board games, books etc. Although this is our second home it does have that homely, traditional French feel where after a few days you cannot fail to feel like you have lived there all your life. You choose the pace and whether to explore the local attractions, golf, fish, admire the dramatic scenery, partake in the local summer fetes, eat at michelin star restaurants, shop until you drop or simply relax and enjoy la vie Francais. The choice is yours! One thing you can be assured of is that you cannot fail to enjoy the whole exchange if you come to this house.

More about us

  1. Hi, We are a Samantha and Tony and have been married 10 years (together 21 - childhood sweethearts!). We have two children Phoebe(8) and Billy(3). We own a successful country pub and restaurant in a small Yorkshire village in England. Tony works and runs the business full time. I work as a Teaching assistant in a primary school and teach French to children privately. As a condition of my job I have been CRB checked. This is our second home and we actually lived there for a year but had to return to England due to business committments. As this is our 2nd home we do not have to do a simultaneous exchange. We may sometimes also have my mum and dad with us but not always. We enjoy the French life and love our house but we think this is a chance for our children and us to occasionally experience different cultures and countries whilst giving others the chance to experience true France. We work very hard at our jobs and are repectful of others and their property as are our children so you can be assured we would treat your property with respect. Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further information.

Where is it?

A tranquil and unspoilt region of France, Mantilly is situated in the beautiful Orne department (officially recognised as having the best air quality in Europe). We are only two hours from Paris by train and less than two hours from the lower channel ports such as Caen, St Malo, Cherbourg and Le Harve. The nearest airport is Dinard or Rennes. The house is set in the heart of rural Normandy surrounded by open countryside and a host of ancient villages steeped in History. It is quiet but not isolated with a 4 min walk into the village where you will find a butchers, bar, hairdresser and post office with small store for your essentials. There is also the traditional French bakery for your fresh morning croissants. The medieval town of Domfront is 10 mins away with its creperies, bistros, restaurants and supermarkets. The coast is 45 min away and offers an array of beautiful beaches and seaside resorts. There are also man made beaches which are located nearer to the house. Mont St Michel is a must visit with its winding street and magnificent abbey. The Normandy landing beaches are within reach as is the bayeux tapestry. For the chic, cosmopolitain feel then the spa town of Bagnoles de l'orne is with its restaurants, bars and casino is nearby. For children then there are an array of parks, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, adventure parks all within the locality. Mantilly is beautiful at Xmas with the whole village/s lit up with lights for a traditional Xmas experience.
