About our home

Hello, our house is a simple comfortable family house in Saint-Marie. We have 4 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and an individual WC. We have a nice garden with a terrace and BBQ. The house is facing south.

More about us

  1. We are both professional cooks. William and Carole. My husband is currently doing a course in Poitiers for a year. We eat mainly organic food and strongly believe in cleaning up the planet. I, Carole cook for the local school catering for 180 children. I have been working there for 2 years and have set up an organic canteen. I make everything myself even the wholemeal bread. We have a garden (with a few friends) in the village where we grow our own vegetables (untreated). You will be welcome to share them. We have 3 children 19, 21 and 23 years of age who are still studying in various parts of France. I play the flute in various wind harmonies on the island and La Rochelle and have recently taken up the bassoon at the conservatoire in La Rochelle, If you are a musician you are welcome, as a visitor, to join in the concerts. We enjoy walking and sightseeing. We will br travelling with dogs. Your dogs are welcome here.

Where is it?

Situated on a little island in south-west France. The village supermarket and chemist are a 2 minute walk from the house. Tennis courts are 300m fromm here and the nearest beach is an 8 minute walk. we are in a quiet cul-de-sac. There is a lot going on in the summer months especially in Saint-Martin which is 5 km from here. Saint-Martin is the capital of the island. La Rochelle, a historical town, is 15 minutes from here via the bridge which links us to the mainland. The îles d'Oleron and Aix are 1 hour from here. Rochefort and the Marais Poitevin are also about the same distance.
