About our home

We have spent the last six years renovating a 200 year old villa in one of the most beautiful spots in all of France, the Dordogne River valley. Villa Page overlooks the lovely river from an immense and private park, complete with boxwood hedged, winding paths, an old well, and beautiful sequoia and spruce trees. Driving through the wrought iron gates under the tiled roof entrance, the house beckons at the end of the circular driveway. The Perigordian architecture, with its charming tiled, pitched roof, wrought iron balconies, and covered, railed porch, speaks of a bygone era. The entry hall welcomes with patterned, italian tiles and a curved, wrought iron staircase. It opens onto the salon, complete with beamed ceilings, wood floors, antiques, and french doors leading onto the balcony and balastrade enclosed terrace. The comfortable kitchen/family room offers an ideal entertaining, cooking environment. The spacious kitchen with handmade tiles, has two sets of french doors opening onto the covered porch for romantic dinners or morning coffee. The family room offers surround sound, a wide screen TV, and an enclosed fireplace. The master suite, with its open beamed ceiling, french windows, antique furniture, sconce rose lights, and connecting jewel of a bathroom, offers a restful retreat. The italian influenced, sconced lite, "blue bathroom" offers a view of the park from its arched alcove shower. The charming attic office is an ideal escape for working or creating.

More about us

  1. Cynthia is a photographer and her husband Bill, a writer; together with their eight year old daughter, they are about to begin their transition back to America. We are looking for a three to four week exchange, while we search for a house. Because of family and business, the Los Angeles area beckons them first, and then, who knows after that. Villa Page is their dream house, complete with privacy and beauty, but they miss Thai food delivery! Seriously, we hope to share this corner of heaven we have created, and all that we have discovered in the incredible Dordogne, with those who wish to share their homes with us.

Neighbourhood

Within strolling distance to the small burg of Vitrac (Port) and its only commerce, two charming hotels with excellent restaurants, yet only 3 miles from the medieval, renaissance town of Sarlat, Villa Page has much to offer. The house is set in a 20 km stretch known as the golden triangle. The Dordogne river winds it way through cliff topped fortress towns, riverside perched chateaux and verdant farmlands. It is no wonder the hidden caves of Lascaux and Font de Gaum, with their prehistoric cave paintings, give testiment to evidence of early man; where else would they want to live? The town of Sarlat, draws thousands of tourists in August, but in the fall is a haven, with its cobblestone streets, side walk cafes, English language movies, and enticing boutiques. A well-known vacation and second home location for the British, the Dordogne is little known in America. If one grows tired of the idlyic life at the river's edge, watching hot air ballons sail overhead, Toulouse, Bordeaux and the closer towns of Perigueux and Brive offer further big city enticements. The weather is temperate here with fall gently arriving, temperatures in the seventies often and into Novmember as well.
